Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

first I just want to say to you RELAX!!!!

Your baby is just fine. Stop stressing over it. You are putting too much energy into thinking about how much he eats/sleeps. Not every baby follows the "rule" book for baby behavior! He will eat when he's hungry and sleep when he's tired. As long as he's gaining weight he is fine. Stop counting how many oz. your son is eating and how many hours your son is sleeping. As others said, he may be getting ready to sleep through the night which is a blessing. You can't always make your children follow a set schedule, rather you have to adjust to theirs when they are this little.

Again... RELAX and just enjoy him! He seems healthy and happy. That is the one thing that matters and should make you happy.

I second everything that was said above. You are definately stressing yourself out! My son didn't develop a set schedule for eating and sleeping until he was close to 5 months old. I just learned to follow his cues and try anything I could to get him to sleep when I noticed he was tired, and fed him when he was fussy and wasn't tired (that's how I figured he was hungry). It WILL get easier, I promise. Your son looks like he is a happy thriving baby in the profile picture you posted. You can't spoil them at this age. They need all the attention their mommies can give them.

I agree with everything Beth and Lora and many of the others have said....

I don't know if its been mentioned in the previous 5 pages, but I think if you get "The Happiest Baby on the Block" book by Dr. Harvey Karp. It really helped us in the beginning.

I think you have tried most of the five S's....

Swaddling
Side/Stomach
Shushing
Swinging
Sucking

But Shushing, swinging and sucking were key for is to get Aidan to nap the first few months. and he hated the bouncy and swing. I either would cradle him close to me, or put him in his car seat in the snap n go and SHUSH SHUSH real loud. Or put him in front of the vent fan and push him.
When he was about two months sometimes I would circle the hallway walking fast and shushing to put him to sleep. It worked for us.

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

I just wish all his feedings wouldn't take so damn long. An hour sometimes for 3 or 4 oz. I could understand for 5 or 6 but for 3 or 4? We are using size 3 avent nipples and maybe it's too much flow for him to swallow so fast. But then again the size 2 he was still stopping after an ounce or ounce and a half to catch his breath then he would **** the rest slowly and that's why we went with a size 3 thinking it would be faster. Sometimes he cries during the feeding so I take the bottle out and put it back in and he'll root for it like he wants it but then whines again. I don't know if it's just him being whiny and fussy or if he's full? He still acts like he wants it though.

it is very common for feedings to take 30-50 minutes in the beginning. it usually takes hannah about 40 minutes for 3.5 oz, and this is with 2 burps in between.

Oh yeah the burps make the feedings longer yes...

I was it was only 30-50 minutes. But an hour and half? Is that even normal?

If the diaper is not soaking with pee but there is only a little yellow, does that still count as a wet diaper?

Bedda... for your own sanity please relax and not analyse everything your DS does or doesn't do... you need your rest and he doesn't need a worried mother. You are doing great and please spend more time with him than on here wondering if there is something wrong! Your son is normal and there will be worse things that you will have to face as he grows... teething, colds etc... Enjoy your time with him and know you are doing a great job raising him. We are always here for you but you have to relax and enjoy this time with him. It goes too fast and you will regret not enjoying it more. He is thriving and healthy. Count your blessings. Babies are babies and each one is different. There are some mothers on here or not on this site that are wishing things will be fine with their little ones. You are lucky. I hope everything continues to be well with you, your DS and DH.

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

I always fed Luka on demand when i was breastfeeding and on formula up until now. I would feed him every 2 hours if that is what he wanted and he would eat 2-5 oz. I kept a log of every bottle he had and tallied it up every night to make sure he didn't exceed 32 which he never did. When he turned 12 weeks I was able to put him on a schedule. I personally think he is still to young for any sort of schedule. I was also concerned about how much he ate and when I told the doctor she smiled at me and said it was fine what did because he was gaining weight. You shouldnt be concerned about his weight since he is gaining regardless of how much. DS also started to sleep through the night around the same age as your DS. He would take less naps durning the day and sleep more at night.
Like everyone else you should relax and enjoy the time now and throw out the books you have. Once I stopped reading What To Expect The First Year I was more relaxed. I felt like I was comparing him to the book and I found myself getting depressed because he didn't do certain things that the book said he should be doing. It's not easy being a first time mom but the best thing that helped me is just to follow him, what ever he wants he will always tell you.

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

He fell asleep screaming last night as always. It was around 9:30 pm. At 11 p.m. I put him in the bassinett and at like 2ish and I wanted to put him back but he was sleeping with his eyes half open so I put him into bed with me. I want to stop the habit but can't and yet at the same time I am desperate for sleep at night that I put him in with me.

Before it looked like he was dead asleep in my arms and I waited 20 minutes to put him down and as soon as I did he was up 5 minutes later he was up.

Re: I am at my wits end...don't know what to do anymore

I don't know how many people and how many times you were told this, but again, what you are describing is COMPLETELY NORMAL for a 6 week old baby.

This may sound harsh, but in my opinion (and I'm one of the CIO proponents on this board), I don't think it's right to let your 6 week old scream to sleep every night. It's amazingly tiring, hard, difficult and maddening to have a baby that doesn't sleep well other than in your arms or right next to you, but that's motherhood... long, restless, sleepless, crying nights are what we signed up for the day we all got pregnant.

And now, ladies, I promise, this is my last post on this thread...

I also wanted to add in that my daughter definately took anywhere between 30-50 minutes to take a bottle in the first few months....

We didn't switch to a larger nipple until she was 5 months ---- it's just that she was a slow eater! Enjoy that time just relaxing and holding your litle one!

Your son is not an insomniac he is 6 weeks old! most, some do, but MOST do not come out of the womb sleeping through the night. He is sleeping from 9-2 on average that is GREAT! You have been told this by so many women on this board but you are not listening. You want an instant cure and there is not one.

I am going to make a recommendation that is going to seem harsh but I think you really need to consider going to see your doctor and getting a recommendation for a therapist. Maybe a therapist will help you to learn to relax more. I think you need someone to talk to. You are all consumed with the fact that something is wrong with him and from what I have read on this site there is NOTHING wrong with him. You should be grateful!!!! But I really think you need to talk to someone before this escalates into something worse. For your sanity and your baby's. You are going to have this child convinced there is something wrong with him when there is not and there is actly a disorder for that it's munchausen by proxity. I may have spelt it wrong but it is a disorder.

Sometimes I feel like saying "to hell with the clock and just feed whenever he seems hungry" but then how would you know if he is getting the ounces he is supposed to be getting.

Just look at it this way. Its easy for you to monitor how many ounces he gets, because you a formula fedding. Breastfeeding Moms never know how many ounces their babies are getting, and they turn out just fine.
