Would you feel comfortable...
...staying at home while your husband works if you don't have children?

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
Absolutely not - and I have been in this position since we got married (10/04). I was looking for a while, then we decided to TTC and DH said that he wanted me to stay home. I dislike it alot, but now that I am 5 months pregnant - it is going to be hard for me to find anything now.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
No, but I had a friend who did it. Believe me she was always busy running around and shopping. She stopped working and he supported her before they were actually married. Now she has kids to take care of, but that hasn't stopped the running around and shopping.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
No way. I think I would be bored, but also like I was wasting my life. One of my friends is "just" a trophy wife, and spends her days tanning, with a personal trainer, getting her hair and nails done. I just can't imagine--I think I would feel totally worthless. If I did not work, I would volunteer full time somewhere.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
I'm in this position right now. I got laid off 6 months before the wedding. (We are married almost 3 months now.) At first it was great because I was able to do all the wedding stuff without having to work things into my work schedule. We are TTC so I keep putting the job search on hold. I have days where I am extremely bored, but I do take care of my 90 year old grandmother so that keeps me pretty busy, but I do miss going out to work and being with other people.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
nope! if i dont have kids there is no reason why i should be home and Dh goes to work! maybe if i had a baby thats a different story! its equal partners working to make a living to live in their home/apt and pay the bills. i know someone who does that actually a relative and he is a big loser!

Um, did I say that????
I was referring to the fact that not too long ago, it was expected that many women stay home and take care of the household while their husbands were at work.
I never said anything about women sitting around not working.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
Sure -- of course my "job" would then be to run every single aspect of the household so that DH wouldn't have to really deal with it. It's just a different type of partnership then what we are all used to these days.

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
I'm doing it now too. My company closed last summer. It was fine for a while b/c we just bought a house and were busy with that, and I was getting unemployment.
But now, I am bored out of my mind, unemployment has ran out, and its impossible to find a job that is ok with me coming in late and missing days for IVF.
I miss my old job so much

Re: Would you feel comfortable...
I would have stayed home...I would have created projects for myself...like renevating the bathroom. I would set myself up on a schedule to wake up at 8 am...go to the gym...come home vacum the house, do the laundry...prep dinner. I would have loved to be suzy homemaker...but since I have a tendency to be a work horse I would have needed to create projects...which I have no problem creating.
But that is just a dream...I have to work...children or not.

I know people who married rich men and literally just take care of themselves. They have housekeepers, even people who cook (and it amazes me that in one case, the guy actually does the grocery shopping when the woman does not work or cook). So it's not even like the days are spent cleaning, cooking, and shopping, but just taking care of themselves, working out, going out to lunch, etc.
