Waldbaums or Super Stop and Shop? They are going to build a SSS in Riverhead, because we need another supermarket, 3 isnt enough. And I need to know where to shopChat Icon

Stop n Shop

There was a Walbaums in my area and it went out of business...it competed w/Stop n Shop.

Re: Which Supermarket has better prices??

it's not a choice but DH and I have found that pathmark is the lowest between waldbaums and S&S

we do all our shopping on 50 bucks a week there (this includes both of us taking lunch every day)

I agree. Pathmark has the best prices. But if i had to choose between SSS and Waldbaums, I might say waldbaums

I agree but with the choices given I would choose Stop and Shop.

Re: Which Supermarket has better prices??

the Waldbaums by me in Oceanside is awful!!!! I go to Stop and Shop purely because of the selection.......and I will go to 3 different supermarkets if their prices are lower...

IMO I get a bunch of stuff at Western Beef!!!! Great one in Mineola near my job!

I agree.

Stop and Shop and Waldbaums are both on the higher end.

When I travel to see my Dad in Plainview I do my shopping at Greenfield's Shoprite.

Ex. 1/2 gallon of soy milk at S&S $4.29
same at Shoprite... $2.99

and it's like that for most items... at least a 50 cent difference... it really adds up.

don't bother.

I went into a King Kullen last week for the first time ever while waiting for my Chinese take out. first of all, it was so small and dirty! I walked up a few aisles to see how the prices were and they really are so expensive!

Re: Which Supermarket has better prices??

I guess living out here I get screwed... my choices in Riverhead are Waldbaums, Best Yet Market and King Kullen. There is a Wild By Nature Market in Hampton Bays which is $$$$. I am just trying to get the best bang for my buck... being an almost family of 5

I would stick with Waldbaum's until they open the S&S.

Pathmark and shoprite have better prices but if you want a gourmet have everything you need and clean then go with Stop n Shop.

Re: Which Supermarket has better prices??

Okay - best yet is cheaper than shop and stop EXCEPT when S&S has really good sales on name brand things.

Could you maybe get your meat, dariy and produce from best yet and everything else from S&S when it has a good sale? That's what I would do.

I'm a huge fan of Stop and Shop. I think their stores are always very clean and well kept and their prices are reasonable.

Re: Which Supermarket has better prices??

totally depends on whats on sale and how you shop Chat Icon
I shop most at WB because its closest to me.
I also shop at S&S if they have stuff on sale that I will stock up on.
Also S&S (not WB anymore Chat Icon ) accepts the KingKullen $10 OFF coupon in the weekend papers. Chat Icon Chat Icon
Shoprite has killer deals to get you in the store, Breyers 99cents, gallon of milk under $2, etc. unheard of prices just on several items (coupons only in the flyers mailed to you)

KK is just overpriced, aside from their hot sale items. but they are the only one by me that still doubles $1. no one else does.

and thats my shpeel on supermarkets. wherever I shop, I come out with paying peanuts for everything ($4 shampoos for $1, toothpaste 50 or 75cents or free, cereal for under $2, etc.), its just a matter of planning, sales on top of coupons, dont buy anything you dont need (well ok a few things Chat Icon ) and stock up, I never need anything to the point of having to pay full price at the last minute Chat Icon

there was a post recently on coupon shopping/different stores, etc.

hope that helps Chat Icon

oh, wanted to add, a pet peeve of mine is sloppy stores, shoprite NEVER has the right signs up, or is always out of stock asap. very annoying. WB & SS are the best with clean well organized stores, at least the ones by me.
