Re: What are you reading right now??

Just finished Bee Season - It started off really great, then I think the plot just started getting a little convoluted. Just watched the movie and I think the movie was better than the book.Chat Icon

I'm also trying to finish a biography of Marie Antoinette that I started over a year ago - I want to finish it before the Sofia Coppola film about her comes out - but I'm going so slowly!

It was a really good book. I had just read the Other Boleyn Girl by Phillipa Gregory and it was interesting to see the differences in the ways that the authors speak about Anne and Mary Boleyn. Gregory makes Anne a villian and Plaidy shows her in a more sympathic light and makes Mary seem like a slut.

It's so funny how these people come across so differently depending on the author you are reading-I've found this to be the case too. I just read "The Autobriography of Henry VIII" a couple months ago. It was pretty good, and it talks about all his wives and mistresses (including Mary). It was one of the few books I've found that spend any time on Catherine Howard or Anne of Cleves. It's a long tale though so it takes some time to get through.

I will have to check it out. If you want more books on Catherine Howard and Anne of Cleves, Jean Plaidy wrote this one:

The Rose Without a Thorn by Jean Plaidy. Novel about the life of Henry VIII's unfortunate fifth wife, Katherine Howard. Impoverished Catherine Howard comes to court as a lady-in-waiting to Anne of Cleves. Although her heart belongs to another she agrees to marry Henry VIII [1509-1547] after he rids himself of the unappealing Anne.

I'm just finishing "The Love Season" by Elin Hilderbrand that I got at the library. I love it!

The two I read last week are: "Paris Hangover" by Kirsten Lobe and "20 Times a Lady" by Karyn Bosnak. I would definitely recommend both books.
