Where did you get your dog from?

not a judgment poll, just curious. if from a shleter or rescue org, what age was he/she when you adopted?

i have a 6 yr old lab. he was orginally my sister and BIL's (from a breeder). i "adopted" him in november.

I have a 6 year old Chihuahua/Toy Fox Terrier Mix from a rescue group.

Katie is from a breeder, Annie is from a shelter.

Got her from a friend of a friend who couldn't keep her anymore.

Got Barney from NSAL in 2005, he was a almost 5 mos. old.

The dog I lost in December to cancer I had for almost 11 years, he was from a small shelter save a stray in Upstate NY, got him at 6 weeks ( too young to be away from mom)..but I was 19 and didnt have a clue...I hope the shelter has changed that policy by now.

We got Luna from the Baltimore animal shelter. She was 12 weeks old and as soon as I saw her (she was in a pen with one of the kennel workers) our eyes locked and my heart melted. I knew immediatelt we were going to take her home.

As skittish as she is when in new situations- she is a complete love....

DH had fish in college (in Albany) and the lady working in his pet store said she didn't know what to do- her unspayed dog just had 13 puppies... So, he took one (decided he was ready for dog) and that's how he got Casey- Casey spent her first year of life in a frat house! Lots of love and attention but lots of beer bottles on the floor.

Tally we got from a shelter last fall.

i chose "breeder" even though i have multiple dogs.

I got Hershey from a co-worker at about a year old - they had adopted her as a puppy from NSAL.

DH got Bailey as a puppy from his GF at the time as a gift - she got him from Yuppy Puppy.

We adopted Max from the Little Shelter when he was 9 years old.

Fascinus was a private rescue - he was 24 weeks old.
Foxy was rescued from the local municipal shelter, she has 24 hours until she was to be euthanized - she was approximately 18 months
Bruno was rescued from Bobbi & the Strays in Queens. He was 12 weeks old.

Pyxie was from a very reputable breeder that I took several months to research. - she was 22 weeks when I took her home.
Loki unfortunately was from a BYB. DH did not know any better when he bought him for me He was only 8 weeks when we took him home. The breeder LIED & told DH he was 16 weeks. He was very ill for the first 4 months we had him.

I got my dog, sandy from the local animal control in my town. She was a stray that was captured by the "dog catcher". She was 5 months old when we adopted her and we have had her for 2 years.......

ETA...he was somewhere between 10-12 weeks. We've had him a bit over 5 years.

From Yonkers Animal Shelter...she was 10 weeks and 2 days old when we got her.

nsal - and we would def go there again - he is our light and joy! we love him more now than as a puppy!

My sister got 2 of her cants from NSAL & one from a neighbor who adopted a pregnant stray from our neighborhood.

My mother's dog was from a breeder, and my DHs 2 dogs that are at his mother's are from the Babylon shelter.

We adopted Gizmo from a relative of my aunt's friend. Their shih-tzu got knocked up and had puppies... we were kids (I was 11 years old) and were asking our parents for a dog for years! My parents didn't really like dogs, but had seen Gizmos mom a few times and liked her, so they took one of the puppies for us. He started off as the family pet but now he is MINE!

Our first lab was from a breeder in Michigan (Windfall Labradors).

Our second lab was found through the Long Island Labrador Retriever Rescue, Inc.. We were told about a big, black male at the Wantagh Animal Shelter...the rest is history. (Best $40 we ever spent! )
