My top 3:

1. Plainedge (cape) - when you first walked in, there was a statue of a huge Indian with his hand up almost blocking the door. In the living room, was a huge statue of the Notre Dame mascot. In the kitchen, the table was painted blue and had "reflections" of dwarfs who were looking down on the table from the ceiling (dwarfs painted on the ceiling). In one of the bedrooms was a huge model of a submarine the size of a single bed that took up the whole room. In the basement were about a dozen pinball machines all with flashing and blinking lights.

2. West Islip (high ranch) - the homeowners were there during the open house. Both were on oxygen and were smoking cigarettes in the kitchen! Two of the bedrooms had no closets!

3. Wantagh (split) - Open House. The house was a fixer-upper and apparently there was a huge roof leak. So huge, that it leaked 2 stories into the kitchen on the 1st floor. The whole ceiling in the kitchen was falling apart and had come down. When the realtor saw us looking up at what was left of the kitchen ceiling, he said, "the owner is willing to negotiate the selling price". Yah, I would think so!

We saw so many other houses that were filthy! If I was having an open house, I would make sure my house was sparkling!

One house we looked at was in incredibly shoddy condition. The prior owner had just moved to a nursing home and the house was vacant. The ceilings in the bathrooms were literally falling down. The floor in the dining room was gorgeous, unusual hardwood, but in the most random place there was a little area rug covering it, and it had a bulge, so I moved it and lo and behold the flooring was coming up. The living area was all lime green with brown stains all over the carpet, god knows from what... the scary part? DH and I saw the "potential" so we made an offer. We were told there were two other offers so we upped ours and we still lost the bid to someone else over a measley $3k. Turns out though, the inspection came up with over $50k in damage, including serious termite problems.

I'm new on here, this is my first post actually, but we were looking in June at houses and one house we went to in seaford was so RUN down, it was just gross. My BF went up to the attic and opened one of the closets and a huge racoon jumped out at him. Needless to say he was freaked out and he didnt tell me till we left the house as to not get me scared.

I will never forget looking at this one house, we were standing in the "Kitchen" and i looked at my DH and said "something is wrong or missing???" He looked at me and said your right where is the stove and the frig?? The realtor opened the door to the non-heated breezeway and there they were. I almost died. To put it nicely we left.

One house we saw was so dirty, you were walking over old newspapers, books, cardboard boxes, clothes, etc. IT was so gross and smelled like as if it was smoked in since day one.

Another house had an apartment, the upstairs wasn't too bad just need a couple of adjustments, but the tenants downstairs OMG I can still remember the smell.Chat Icon
