Suicide sites
so i was watching Oprah a week or two ago and it was about how this girl committed suicide...
But that wasn't the worst part.
She went to a chat site where they talked about suicide (HER suicide), when they were going to do it, how they were going to do it, better more effective techniques to use, different ways to carry this out, shared their suicide notes....etc etc....Not only was this a chat site but an informational GUIDE
Even would end with a last post saying "see you on the other side"
Call me stupid, but i never even fathomed that sites like this existed...
What do you think about sites like this existing...

Do they talk about killing themselves? There should be a way to monitor them - or maybe someone to counsel the members. That is awful.

That's awful. I had no idea these sites existed, but unfortunately, it doesn't shock me. I think there is a website out there for every awful thing we can think of.

That is crazy. Why aren't these suicide hotlines and support groups all over that?
I guess there is nothing they can do if its anoynomous (sp)???

No - I understand that - but I would think that the suicide support groups would be able to get on there for counseling somehow. It really is crazy that people actually go on there and discuss all that. You just have to pray for these people that things get better. It really is so sad!

i feel these sites do much harm to be honest...
they foster positive views of killing oneself, that this is the right thing...the answer
Desperate people find these sites actually and it VALIDATES their hopelessness...

i have seen this as well
They said this on the Tyra Banks show yesterday - there was an actress with bulemia on and she declined to give details of what she did exactly and what her lowest weight was. She was scared the impressionable viewers wouldnt stop til they too were that weight.
So I can see how there would be sites for suicide as well. It is a horrible thing......

I've seen those also - so scary...
It makes me so sad that there are site like this that anyone, but especially kids, can access.

Strange enough... on TYRA the other day they had the anorexic girl from REBA. She could barely tell her triumph in fear that she would give out advice on how to convince a person to become anorexic. She said she actually got her ideas from that Tracy Gold movie dealing with anorexia. I think alot of these "death like " situations, if you are in true desperation you might look and learn the best way out by watching the television, playing on the computer or listening to someone else in a vulnerable situation.

i even found one site with pictures of anorexic models... i believe they called it 'thispiration'
And there are bracelets that they sell to show you're 'pro-ana' (pro anorexia).
I really hope that loved ones find out out people's visits to these sites so that they can get them help...
