Am i the only person that will not hit my dog???

It seems as if everyone i talk to hits animals, even if its with a newspaper. My dogs can get annoying at times, but I would never, ever hit them. I was always taught that it can create more aggressiveness. Plus, would you hit your child all the time. I can understand a tap on the snout every now and again, but not all the time.

It just gets me angry. Thanks for letting me vent!!!!!

I wont hit my dog, although DH has a few times, now all he does is yell at him, and Tiger knows he did something bad

I hit him as a puppy a few times but I dont think I have needed to hit him for about 2 yrs now (he is 3)

The only times I've whacked Brodie are if he's doing something dangerous.

Like chewing on an electrical cord. He's never done it again.

Generally my stern "mommy" voice is enough to get him to stop anything. No physical contact required!!

I am learning the hard way, that everyone in the world has an opinion about how you should treat your dog. I posted about this a few days ago. Anyway, My dog has a troublesome past and we've had to teach him a lot. I still don't hit him. We do scold him and use a spray bottle but mostly we use positive reinforcement.

I think I may have hit her once or twice when she bit but I found just pinning her down until she calmed down to be more effective. Now a stern voice is all it takes.

nope. besides the fact that theyre like 3% of my size i dont need my dogs fearing me.

I only hit Misty once - She kept trying to lick the food out of the dishwasher and I told her No like three or four times and she totally ignored me so I bopped her on the top of the nose.

I never hit my dogs just talk in a stern voice and they put their tails between their legs works and you dont have to hit an animal that cant hit you back!!

They hit them but not to intentionally abuse them. They always give me advice as to how to handle my dogs and they always say if the dog is being bad to hit it with a newspaper, etc.

I just thought, since i dont believe in really hitting my dogs, that i was the minority. I guess the people i talk to are not animal lovers like i am. I refuse to hurt my animal in any way. They are my babies.

I DO NOT hit my dog...I don't think it does any good. I only believe in positive reinforcement!!!

I have hit Rudy maybe once or twice.. but my hit is like a tap.. I mean really like a tap.. I could never really hit him.

No, I hit my old dog on 2 occasions and I still feel so guilty for it, even though she's been dead for 5 years I couldn't do it again to a dog. I don't think they understand why you do it.
