What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

There's a post on BHB about parties. sweet sixteens, etc getting out of control nowadays...

What did you do for yours?

I was allowed to take (with my parents) four friends for dinner at Bobby Rubino's and then we all went to see Howie Mandel at Westbury Music Fair!!!

It seemed like if you had a Bat Mitzvah (like I did) people didn't really have elaborate Sweet Sixteens.

I went to London for the week with 10 girlfriends (we had one chaperone). My parents were thrilled since it was so much cheaper than a party!

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

well, for me it was a sweet fifteen since that's what we celebrate in colombia. My dad actually gave me a party, very modest since he didn't have a lot of money at his girlfriend's house but I got to get dressed up and all. He also brought music for me to serenade me.Chat Icon

I had a party in a church basement in Queens. I had a DJ, a brand new taffeta dress, and it was fully catered! There were about 75 people there!

me? nothing.

my best friend at the time had a quincanera (sorry to butcher the spelling). she is ecuadoran, and it was such a fun experience. she did the church ceremony, the changing of the shoes (flats to heels). she had 15 girls and 15 guys, all in the matchign dresses/tuxes, we did a dance. a big reception- it was like a wedding. Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

Since I have a late birthday, I turned 16 my junior year, and people were SOOO over going to the parties by that point. I was sick of them as well.

So, I went to Italy with my friends instead!! Chat Icon

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I had my sweet 16 in a private room at an Italian restaurant. I wore a black cocktail length dress from Saks. We had a DJ, favors, and purple, silver, and turquoise balloons. It wasn't as big as some others b/c I had a huge Bat Mitzvah reception 3 years prior, but it was a ton of fun!

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I had a party at home - my brother DJ'd (he actually was a DJ at the time) and we had the food catered by a local deli. I wore a new dress, parents went out, and we spiked the punch. I had boys at my party - which was a big deal cuz I went to an all-girls school

Dad wanted to rent a VFW but mom said no.

This was way back in the olden days.......

Oh and mom & dad gave me a beautiful ruby and diamond ring - my first "expensive" pieces of jewelry.

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I had a huge sleep over. The boys were supposed to leave but a few winded up staying. One got in trouble because he never called his parents to tell him where he was. So his parents had the cops out on him.

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I had a party in my parents backyard. We had it catered from a local italian restaurant and also had a hero from a deli. We did have a DJ but other than that it wasn't anything huge. I thought it was perfect and loved it! My Mom's friend is a florist and her gift to me was flowers for all the tables.

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I had a party - just family, and a few close friends, at a smaller room at Smithtown Landing CC (75 people). It was under $20 a head, there was a DJ, and I had a GREAT time.

My birthday is 2 days before Valentines Day, so everything was maroon and pale pink hearts. Chat Icon

I can't believe I had such a girly party! I was such a boy growing up.

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

I didn't have a typical sweet 16. My mom took me and a group of my friends into the city and we went out to lunch and then walked around browsing in stores. It was surprisingly fun.

Re: What did you do for your Sweet Sixteen?

Since my b'day is in august, we had a family party in the backyard and BBQ'd. Don't remember what gifts I received, but I sure do remember a big-a$$ corsage with pink ribbons and 16 sugar cubes. I don't think they even make them anymore. No DJ, just a radio. Favors??? Yeah right!!!! Chat Icon
