didn't mean to exclude, sorry. was more so interested in the responses about dogs since i am in the process of fostering a shelter/stray.

My lab is from North Shore Animal League; my pit is from the Huntington animal shelter (she was being put down when DH rescued her).

Bear was from NSAL. Nakita we rescued from people at my DH's job who were going to give her to a shelter because they had no time for her.

I got my first dog from NSAL. She was the best dog ever!!!!
Got my current dog from a breeder (I was looking for a specific breed this time around).

We adopted our dalmatian mix from Little Shelter when he was about 1.5 years old. He has added so much to our lives and we love him so very much. And I have to say, our experience at Little Shelter was fantastic. The people there are terrific.
ETA: I can't leave my cat out! He was a stray that we took in (he was 4 years old). We had another cat who was a stray as well (and under a year old when we got him), but he passed away in Feb.
