Cruise Question Here!

Sorry, but this board gets more reads ...

Is it worth it to spend the extra money on a balcony room as opposed to an interior room?

TIA

Re: Cruise Question Here!

Well on my cruise it is about 1000 more...
and unless youplan to spend a lot of time in your room...
I don't think it is worth the money

Re: Cruise Question Here!

On the cruise I am taking, it is about 600 dollars which is more than excursions at three ports so I decided I would rather spend the money elsewhere.

Lisa, the boat has many balconies to look out from. I would just spend the extra money on other stuff.jmo

Re: Cruise Question Here!

For me it was worth it. From what I saw the interior rooms were really small. I also would have felt closterphobic (sp??) if I couldn't see out a window or go on a balcony.

ETA.... You definitely want to get a room that is in the middle and on a higher deck.

You can get an upper deck window room that is not bad.

Another reason it did not seem worth it to us is because we figured besides a few breakfast meals...really in the grand scheme of the cruise...how much time would we reallly be spending in the room.

all things to consider. Thanks everyone Chat Icon

Now ... Recommend your cruise ship or ports of call!

I was looking into the exotic Western Carribean cruise - belize, roatoan, grand cayman, cozumel ... but I hear Hurricane Ivan destroyed roatoan.

I cant remember exactly (it is 1130 on friday night) but we are going to costa maya, cozumel, belize and I can't remember the other one or two.
We are taking Royal Caribbean out of Tampa, FL

Re: Cruise Question Here!

If it is cheap then do it, I would not spend more than 300 for upgrade though. I have found that the most important thing is to find a room in the middle of the ship, hardly any waves or motion then. I would rather gamble then get the balcony room.

Re: Cruise Question Here!

I personally loved having the balcony. I felt like we had our own personal sunrise/set. We stay up late and the balcony just felt so peaceful to be outside alone with the stars. When we were on the deck with other people, they ruined the serenity.

I feel the same way. The balcony was totally worth the money to us. And it just made the room look nicer and brighter.

Us too - we wound up using it alot - our own personal view of things instead of fighting for space on the shared decks.

We would get drinks after dinner and go sit on our balcony for alone time before the shows and stuff. Plus if it's a private balcony (meaning others can't see into it) you can do other stuff!! Chat Icon

I won't cruise without one now.

Re: Cruise Question Here!

We've gone on 3 cruises and out of all of them we tried to save money and not have a balcony...I was miserable. IMO, it's totally worth it. I would have breakfast ordered to the room in the morning and they would come and put outside on the balcony. It was great. Plus it makes the room brighter and bigger.

I also did a little topless bathing there when we were at sea and the neighbors weren't out.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Anyway...I loved St. Lucia, Antigua and Aruba. We did 2 southern caribbean cruises and a western caribbean cruise. We've been on Disney, Carnival and Princess. I loved Disney and Princess the best. I think next time, we're going to try Royal Caribbean.

Re: Cruise Question Here!

I'm also looking into booking a cruise in October. We've never been, but everyone I have talked to tells me that I "have" to have a balcony. Still, I'm leaning towards a regular outside" room. I'd rather spend the money on something else.

DH wants to go to Grand Cayman and I want to see Belize, so we are looking for something that goes to both ports. Unless, we decide to leave from NY, then it will be to Bermuda.

Re: Cruise Question Here!

I've never been on a cruise where I had a balcony, but I have always had an outside window. I would not take an interior room without a window b/c it woudl be way too claustrophobic for me.

Re: Cruise Question Here!

Anyone have feedback on the Carnival Valor or Carnival cruises in general?

It's either Carnival or Royal Carribean ... any feed back?

Also, do you feel more ship time or more stops are important? DH says shiptime (pool, activites etc) whereas my friend says more ports of call to see everything ....

Just wondering what everyone else feels...

Re: Cruise Question Here!

I'm all for the balcony although I see the point of not spending much time in the room, etc... but that early morning coffee/breakfast during sunrise, the nice touch it really adds to the room and the privacy when you want to just come back and hang out is great!
Maybe it depends on the cruise to- some cruises your'e at sea for a long time so I though it was nice.
Costa is a nice cruise line! and I loved grand caymenChat Icon

sorry no feedback on those cruise lines....
I guess some people like more at sea time and some, more ports of call. I enjoyed both- there's definately enough to do on the ship! Some ports of call can be too short. For example, we once stopped at key west for maybe 3 hours- no time to do anything. and some other stops were like 5 hours and they flew by.
Either way, I'm sure you'll love itChat Icon

Re: Cruise Question Here!

I'd rather hit more places and have less times at sea. When we did the southern caribbean cruise we flew to Puerto Rico and from there we hit Barbados, St. Lucia, St. Maarten, Antigua and Aruba. I'm more of a beach person, than hanging out on a boat and drinking all day. I'd rather be snorkeling in the ocean and seeing the sites of the island...as well as shopping. Don't get me wrong, I love the days at sea, but I think more places are just exciting to me.Chat Icon

I never did Royal Caribbean but I did Carnival and I wasn't too crazy about it. Isn't the Valor a new boat though??

The Valor is new (Dec '04) ... mixed reviews (some loved it some hated things like the staff) but I'm not sure if it's all of Carnival they are talking about or just the boat in general.
