Window Estimate...OMG...did I get an eye opener!!!!

Boy did I get a wake-up call yesterday! My DH and I had someone from Pella Windows come in to give us an estimate on a new dinning room window. We want to replace and increase the sizeof the window...so we looked at a bow window...with 4 windows that all crank open. Of course I feel in love with the blinds built into the window...which is why we were looking at the Pella design series windows.

Well after all was said and done....the bottom line for installation and the window it came to a wopping $8,512.67!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

HOLY &HIT!!!!!!!! Im looking to get ONE window.....not a whole house full!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

The salesman told us the price and then said...ok...should we proceed??? Chat Icon uhhhh I dont think so!!!

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon its almost comical!!!

So needless to say, we are now going to look at the regular Pella windows and also Anderson.

Re: Window Estimate...OMG...did I get an eye opener!!!!

Wow that's a lot. We paid $3000 for a 4 panel Anderson bow window and 2 replacement windows. The installer was
Tom Morse Siding/Windows/Roofing.

Tom is great, he is the DH of my DH's coworker. He did my roof and windows and my in-laws siding.

Re: Window Estimate...OMG...did I get an eye opener!!!!

Pella is infamous for this. When we wanted to change our windows 18 years ago, we had them come to the house. After they quoted their price, the first thing they did was take out a book and tell us how we could finance it. We said "we'll think about it" and went to the nearest Anderson store. We spent far less money on all the windows we wanted and have not regretted it. They look just as good and perform just as well as they did when we first put them in.

Just as an FYI- our house came with those crank windows and I hate them- one of them needs to be fixed and we can't open that window at all. And the others don't open so easily. But I also bet it's a cheap window- the previous owners were not into quality.

Though, for $8k, I guess they come with some kind of guarantee against that kind of thing! Chat Icon

Re: Window Estimate...OMG...did I get an eye opener!!!!

yep Pella's are huge money. Andersens are half that. It's the installation that's also nuts.

We though we had to replace 4 ft windows on my second floor and got estimates from a few. The lowest was $4000 and the highest was $6000.

It turned out that Nassau Door and window came to look at them and said we don't have to replace them. They fixed them for under $2k. they even re-framed them and went to the lumber yard and put on new moulding for us since the old stuff was bad.

At least they were honest. The other places couldn't care less and wanted to replace them.

Needless to say, I am going to use them to replace my front door.

Holy crap one window Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

We will be looking into redoing ALL of our windows next year. I was thinking about 12k for all of them- I think we have 14 windows and I wanted to change our living room window into a bow window and maybe get one of those flower box windows for the kitchen-- crap I think we will be lucky to replace 2 of them at that price.Chat Icon
