Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

I am confused- is this a second marriage, or like a vow renewal?

For the vow renewal, I had no idea that a gift was proper. Especially since

a. it is so close, time-wise to the civil ceremony?

b. the gift you gave for the civil ceremony was quite generous

c. you are shelling out a lot of $ to attend

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

Are they going somewhere for their honeymoon?

Or maybe just give them an American Gift Card for them to use. If it were me, I would probably not give a BIG $ gift, but still give something like in the $200-250 range.

Where in Europe???
Maybe something corresponding to the country?
This is the one time I wouldn't do $$ for a re-run of a wedding.

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

If this is just a vow renewal I think a gift in the $100 region should suffice since you gave such a generous gift the first time and you have to go to Europe.

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

Well thats what I am saying about not being sure what to give.

They had the civil ceremony here because of her visa issues. They got married in central park the 1st time and had a reception in a bar/restaurant.

They are having this church ceremony to officially "receive the sacrament of holy matrimony". I think her family that lives in Europe are very religious.

But they are doing a "real wedding" this time around. They rented out a catering hall. Going the whole nine yards.

While yeah i guess its a vow rewnewal... its mainly to receive the sacrament. But according to him (and her I presume)... he definitely feels that he is already "married".

They are also getting married on their anniversary... so they will still have one wedding anniversary.

I would imagine this is more for her and her family. But who knows in the end.

Tough situation.

I also have to do another best man speech. What do I say this time around? Chat Icon He is the only guy I know that got suckered into getting married twice? Chat Icon

Ahh, ok. In that case, how about a silver frame with their wedding date engraved on it?

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

I would think far less would be appropriate - something like $100.00 - how about one of those fancy champange sets with the wine glasses?

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

What about getting a gift certificate for the spa at the hotel they're staying at, or having a bottle of champagne delivered to their room? I understand your dilemma and I agree, I'd want to do "something" too, but nothing crazy $-wise. I think either of those, or something like that, would be a really nice gesture and probably very much appreciated.

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

Find something as a token gift...maybe for about $100. You can order it and have it shipped ahead or bring it with you.

Something elegant, useful and meaningful.

Don't go the money route either in cash or gift card. Gift cards are the same as money. It should be a gift-gift..you dig?

just an FYI- you can't use the Amex gift cards in other countries- I got a few for my wedding- and it says on the back USA only

but you can get the travelers check card- same thing basically

Re: Need Wedding Gift Advice - for a "second wedding"

Do you have time to mix a great CD for him? If I were the one getting married, a sentimental gift like that would mean a lot to me, especially since you are laying out all that $ to go to the wedding.

Thanks for the advice. Still trying to figure it out.

A nice picture frame might be good. Any good places to go to?

I also thought about the spa thing.

Fortunoff's has some beautiful frames - I am partial to the Waterford ones.
