I know I am going to get blasted for this, but this is my opinion and we are all entitled to it. I don't think it is cheap or tacky to have a wedding on a holiday weekend, but I think it is a p-i-t-a. Especially summer weekends: Memorial Day, 4th of July, or Labor Day. I know many people who have standing plans and just won't go, I always go because I am like that, but not thrilled about it. Just my .02, but like I said I am thinking of the summer weekends, when we usually go away.
Anyway I heard the Z100 bit and thought it was ridiculous and they were just starting drama (it happened after a phone tap). What the hell does Danielle know about tacky - I didn't know she was the new Emily Post.
While i don't agree with what Danielle said about it being cheap and tacky (I actually think it's more expensive), I do have to agree with the above poster.
I was just talking about this with someone who has a wedding to go to for Memorial Day weekend of a cousin. She is going, but her and DH had to cancel a planned trip and she was bummed.
While any bride can have her day any day she wants, I think for some people it can be an inconvienence and has to expect some people to RSVP no due to planned trips, etc.

This is hysterical!
I got married the Saturday night of Thanksgiving Weekend. We planned that night for a few reasons.
1. We invited 385 people to our wedding and only budgeted for 300. We hoped since it was a holiday weekend, people would be traveling.
2. We knew the people that mattered most to us would be traveling, to see us!
3. Family is extremely important to DH and I. We always spend Thanksgiving with our holidays anyway. Now we all had a reason to party!
4. We like that every anniversary will be spent with our families. Now no one can say they forgot our anniversary!
5. Since we both have huge families, we wanted to be sure that our wedding would not fall onto a weekend where people had already planned vacations out of town. We had a very short engagement so that kind of narrowed us down on the weekends.
6. Traditionally our families all come home for Thanksgiving.
7. We could really care less what other people think (This should have been No. 1!!)
My cousins are getting married this year on the Sunday night of Memorial Day weekend. You know what, if someone had "other" plans, fine! The most important people will be there. If someone can't come because that is a weekend that they have their share house, then how much can the bride or groom really mean to them?

I have one more thing to say:
It is so funny how on LIW, the drama always starts about people stating their opinion, then others don't like it, then more people gang up on the person(s) that didn't agree saying "they were stating their opinion, if you don't like it then too bad." Well isn't that kind of what is going on with this LIW/Z100 thing. it's stupid, if you ask me.
The only thing that does make me a little mad is that they read posts on the air. However, it's just a reminder that this is a PUBLIC forum and ANYONE can read what we write.
ETS: And, I want to say that people will complain no matter when or where your wedding is. If they are going to complain, then they will find something wrong with any day or time that you choose. I say screw them!

Not that I need to defend my choice, but just to explain som eof the reasons that people might have a long weekend wedding.
My wedding was on Memorial Day weekend (which was not any cheaper at my place , darnit). I did this not to inconvenience anyone, but because most of our guests were coming from OOT ( I had 70 ppl 65 from OOT) and had not been to NYC. This gave them a long weekend to explore the city without having to take as much time off of work or the kids out of school.

Honestly, my wedding was on a holiday weekend because it was convenient for ME! SCREW everyone else! Those who didn't like it, didn't come. Wah, wah. I could have cared less who showed up besides me and my husband!

A few pwople commented on me having my wedding on Valentine's Day (people not invited) but it was people who it didn't matter to me what they thought. It was actually my husbands idea so how could I say no to that? It was romantic that he even suggested it and that's all that mattered to me.

I am a huge fan of Z100, well basically the morning show, but I'm suprised o fmany people dont like them!
They probably were talking about LIW because soo many brides on that board emialed them about the comment that Danielle made. If you read that thread on there they were sending a ridiculous amount of emails basically slamming them for having an opinion about holiday weekend weddings. Those girls need to relax and worry about more important things. Jeeeeeeese.

i agree. this mornings chit chat was a REPLAY from the other day- it wasnt "live" ..sometimes they do that.....
honestly I would not make that much of a big deal of it... do what you want- the people that love you can care about you will be there no matter what.. You will always have some in your family or cirlce of friends that will complain... its YOUR WEDDING.
but like many people said, everyone is going to have an opinion on this topic, incluidng radio djs.
i listen to Z-100 occasionally and happen to liek some of the topics they discuss. dont like, flip the channel...
hey it made liweddings a bigger hit!!!
