The more you guys respond, the more I see that it's more likely for my water to break at the hospital... this definitely relaxes me a bit. In the meantime, I'm going to look into proofing my apt just in case I'm in the small percentage of women who actually gush out water...

I went to bed at 39 weeks and when I went to lay down I noticed a trickle. All I thought was "damn, I just peed myself". I was bummed because I was in my comfy nightgown. Cleaned up, headed to bed. A few seconds later, trickle trickle. "Damn again?!? What's going on??". Third time it happened I was like "UH OH!" and realized we had to GO!! I had an infection and they had to have me on an IV as soon as my water broke. I remember "trickling" all night. What a comfy feeling sitting there in muck water

I was in a hospital bed. The nurse broke my water and it felt like the best & longest pee-pee I've ever taken!!!

Luckily I was home for about an hour (I had left work a little earlier than I would have normally) and not on the LIRR - my biggest fear....
That was my biggest fear too!!!!! But I was induced 3 weeks early and the doc broke my water in the hospital bed AFTER I got my epidural...

I was in the hospital and they broke my water for me but I was nervous about this as well and I bought a waterproof mattress pad and kept that on the bed.
Also I remember when my mom had my baby brother her water broke and it went on the carpet but I used a carpet cleaner and cleaned the entire carpet and it didn't stain or ruin the rug

I was in an Ice Cream Shop....luckily none of it dripped on the floor or thorugh my clothes...we got back to car before that happened.

Um, well for me, my water broke on it's own. Actually, I think I popped it myself.  I woke up from a "nap" and I stretched my legs and literally heard a little "pop" and then it was niagra falls all over the place.
For some reason, I'm cracking up about this. I wonder if men would have premature rupture of membranes

mine never broke and I had a c/s but to prepare I did put a $1.00 shower curtain liner under my sheets.

I was on the computer at home and heard and felt a pop (plug I think) and less than one hour later I felt the water.

I walked in from work and went to the bathroom...I was peeing and then it didn't stop. Turned out it wasn't urine.
I didn't hear or feel a pop.
No one told me that the water just keeps leaking until you have the baby. I was soaked!

I guess I had the ideal situation - mine broke while I was in the shower. It was the type that trickled instead of one big gush. That was with my son. With my daughter I went into labor but it never broke until they did it for me at the hospital.

Mine was also ruptured @ the hospital by my OB both times.
My GF's broke in Target and when she told her DH they had to go he was like "can we just pay for this stuff first?"
