Remember the day when the worse thing that happened in school was someone pulling the fire alarm. Chat Icon

It's so sad that these kids have to worry about things like this.

Chat Icon Chat Icon I wish my school had thought about that! We were the class of 85 so the goal for some was to pull it 85 times that year.

Re: Attenion parents of school age kids(i would say 6th grade and up) did you hear about this

I don't think that the district is locking down the school BECAUSE of the movie, but rather because of threats/comments/talk by the kids that was leaked. Honestly, it may seem a bit ridiculous and unnecessary, but schools tend to take things ALOT more serious since Columbine, 9/11, etc. It does seem a bit over the top, but unfortunately Columbine can happen anywhere. 10 to 1 nothing will happen, which is usually the case, but god forbid something did happen, everyone would say "well they knew about it and didn't take the threats seriously"

I am not a parent, but I am a teacher in a pretty good school district, and I can honestly say that although we have never had a lockdown or a lockdown drill, I would be happier if my district acted on a threat and locked us down as opposed to brushing it off.

I completely agree with this. I have 3 nieces and nephews in the WF school district (and I know their closest friends as well).
I have a feeling like this poster said - they are receiving other threats or pranks and just want to be safe - WF is known for that type of stuff. I think they only way they could portray it to the children's family is to say it is due to the movie coming out.

ps - I am at the elementary level! Chat Icon

OMG Chat Icon

in all fairness, lockdowns are usually district-wide - a lockdown in the elementary schools doesn't mean something happened in that particular school. on days there are major fights in the HS, all of the schools lock-down, since in most districts there is very little distance between schools.

in all fairness....i guess i am utterly shocked this happens...

this kind of violence in schools...that you have to lock down the school...

sad

It can be violence inside the school or in the community/nearby.....safety is a huge issue that I don't think at any level we can "skimp" on!

I am sure this is true...and wasn't implying anything different..

Again..this was an eye opener to someone who doesn't have any children...

My knowledge is strictly what neighbors, friends and my DH tells me...

the heightened security to some might seem like a good thing...

to me, itis pretty sad part of reality i guess...

I have never heard of any SD's by me having any lockdowns...

Are there others that do this kind of thing?

There was a lockdown at Eastport South Manor's school district a while back. Apparently some lunatic was in his house with a rifle threatening to shoot people with it. The house was within distance of the Dayton Ave. school.

Re: Attenion parents of school age kids(i would say 6th grade and up) did you hear about this

In the 10 years I have been with my district we have had 3 no scheduled lock downs. All due to bank robberies. We are surrounded by 4 banks. The worst one the police and the robbers were running between my school and one of the elementary schools firing their guns. The kids in the elementary schools had to go under the desks with the lights out and windows sealed shut. For my kids they had to get against the wall furtherst from the windows and sit on the floor. It was VERY scary for the elementary school.

In the past 30 days however the bank on the corner of our road was robbed again Chat Icon and the police neglected to inform the school Chat Icon Then someone in the neighborhood fell in the shower and severed an artery they had to medivac him out of the area- they landed the helicopter on our field- again negelcting to tell the school that they were coming!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Can you imagine if the children were out for gymChat Icon

We were 10 mintues from dismissal when the helicopter finally took off. If it hadn't we would have went into a modified lock down for the protection of the kids.

We just had our lock down drill on FRiday.

jess...did you read the whole thread?

they're not putting the school on lock down because of the movie's release per say, but because of the RUMORS going around amongst students about acts of violence possibly occurring.

do you mind me asking what school? My girlfriend tonight flipped on me tonight because I received another call from the school tonight(same message) and this time she got to hear it(no voice mail at home nor answering machine) SO after hearing that I said I am with out a doubt keeping kryssy home. She went on to say that her son is taking state test on wedsday and Thursday and she does not want him to miss any prep that may go on that day. I said wait a sec you are willing to possible put him in a dangerous situation over stupid state test, she went crazy saying you know you are really getting on my nerves about this Chat Icon excuse me I said wait a sec I called you the other day knowing you had no answering machine and with what happen 2 years ago with the stabbing at the school (which was covered up and lied about by the school, needless to say her son was best friends with the girls brother*girl got hurt*) and then tonight I let you hear the message because I got another call SO she hears it for herself and I am getting on your nerves! Well I , never mind I am sure you all can think what I am !

Sorry SO long!Chat Icon

Right- and let's say something did happen- not that I think it would at all, but let's say something did- how much trouble would the school and school officials be in for not taking the appropriate precautions based on the information they knew?? How big would the lawsuits be??

Sadly- it may seem stupid, but in today's sue happy and sick society you can never be too cautious.
