Update: he's having a really hard time breathing. They're admitting him and medicating him for at least a few days with the hopes that the medication will draw out the fluids. After that, more heart testing, lung testing, etc. This could be a while 
On top of that, I got some bad health news of my own a couple hours ago, and have to head back to the hematologist/oncologist.
THIS HAS BEEN THE WORST DAY.

Grandpa is in the ICU now - they finally got him a room. They talked about moving him to the CCU, but they're full.
As for me, well...My blood is abnormal...again. This landed me in the hospital 3 years ago. Platelets are WAY up, and iron levels and ferratin level (stored iron) are WAY down. It's suppressing my immune system and making every little virus/germ make me sick (hence the red rash and swollen lips that I STILL have from before Thanksgiving.  ) As for the cause of the high platelets and low ferratin, no one knows...so it's back to the hematologist/oncologist.
And I'm not really OK - I'm superstressed and really upset. I'm bombarded with finals, final papers, etc...have NO money left because of the holidays, and all I want to do is get away and relax.  OK vent over, thanks for listening.

I'm so sorry you're going through all of this right now. I hope Grandpa will be okay and I hope you'll be okay. I know it's incredibly hard, but you need to at least try not to be stressed right now, because it will only make things worse.

Nic--I am so sorry you are going through this. You and your family are in my ..I hope all works out, Im sure it will.. Just try to take everything one day at a time!

I'm so grateful that he went to the Dr today. He has regular 2 week checkups since being diagnosed with diabetes last winter.
My Grandmother's friend passed away and the funeral was this morning, so Grandpa was going to cancel his Dr appt and be there to support my grandmother. He's had trouble breathing these past few days, so he didn't cancel the appointment. The Dr immediately called an ambulance.
After testing in the ICU tonight, we were told that he would've been dead tomorrow if they hadn't started draining the fluid. There was so much pressure on his heart - he is (still) in congestive heart failure, but his heart would've collapsed under the pressure tonight, tomorrow the latest.
So scary...but it's not over yet. Hopefully he's out and with us for the holidays.
