will they/should they show the plane hitting the building again?
I say no, there is no reason for it.

I am sure that coverage will be played again. Painful as it is, it's still history and it was captured live on TV, the first attack on the US mainland.
That doesn't mean that I have any desire to see any of the coverage ever again.

That image is seared into my brain. I don't need to see it ever again. I never turn on my tv on 9/11, because I don't want to watch it all again.

They shouldn't, but they will. And the towers falling. Like everyone doesn't have that horrible image imbedded into their memory forever anyway?

yep, I see what you are saying. And I will choose not to watch any coverage of the days events. I say that every year and when they read the names, I cry.

yes and no...
but there are several shows on it throughout the year..
i just find that playing the footage year after year...is unnecessary
and i do think it will stop soon

I remember on the 2nd annverisary there was some debate as to whether or not they would show the plane, but they did. And again the next year, and again last year.

Good question. I think its mentioned as the anniversary, but I can't imagine its as painful for as London, as it is for us.

i think so
in fact...i think maybe it should e showed more so in other states as opposed to NY
for the people who say they play this year after year to keep it alive in our thoughts...so we don't forget
i just seriously think that no NYer will ever forget...
so there is no need for such extensive coverage here...
we have seen and heard ALL the friggin theories, the facts, the info on the terrorist and whatnot
i am soooo done knowing about this
it will be in my heart forever..

CNN is replaying their coverage from the day as it happened so they will definitely be replaying it.
I am mixed about if they should. On one hand it can totally retraumatize people, but on the otherhand if we don't re-experience it, there is the potential to avoid it so much that we forget".

I am pretty sure they will show it. I DONT stay away from the tv this day. I cant say I like to watch the coverage, but it helps me to be grounded, and to appreciate the things I have. For me, its humbling.

I think it just hits us harder here because it happened in our own backyard.
I know there is no comparison.. The Katrina Hurricane affected so many families. You watch it for a second and think, those poor people. But to them that was the hugest thing because it happened to them.

I agree. As painful as it is, I feel compelled to watch the 9/11 coverage. It's as if I feel the need to make myself feel how I did that day, so that I don't forgot how horrible it was.

its always upsetting to me to see it every time
It kills me to know that it is 5 years already, and not a day goes by that I do not think of this tragedy. Before 9/11, I am not sure I even knew what the definition of terrorism was, or who bin laden was
I don't like to see the video being replayed over and over again. Its a sight we will not soon forget, but to play it year after year is not necessary. We all know what happened already

I am not saying this is true for everyone all the time, but I think in American culture as a whole, we get very caught up in the present and our current life. Every once in a while we need a reminder of what's really important in life. Ideally, we should never lose perspective, but I just don't think that is a reality. People will regain perspective in different ways, and for some, they may need to "relive" it to remember the loss, pain, and tragedy of the past so that they can live, love and honor in the present and future.
