You are correct, it's not my business.
But she posts this stuff up here, that she collects unemployment instead of getting a job during the intercession.
It bothers me that she collects unemployment when she is able to get a job during this time period. In my opinion she is taking advantage of the system and everyone else who's hard earned $$ goes towards paying unemployment.
And then says she is going to FL for vacation during this time period. So is this $$$ paying for her trip.

honestly...a lot of people do this kind of thing..collect unemployment liek this
Some the ENTIRE winter and then some...
IMO i really wouldn't worry about someone like Ro wasting our tax dollars...
it is wasted in sooo many other ways

If she knows she has a job waiting for her on 1/23, and she's earned those unemployment dollars via taxes throughout the year, isn't it her right to enjoy this time off?

I agree, Jen. I agree with you that so many people do take advantage.
The thing I think that is bothering me is I know this particular person (Roseann) is. Know what I mean??? It just really bothers. She can post anything she wants, but when she posts she collects unemployment and then is going to FL during this time period, some people, like myself are going to have their opinions.
If I am incorrect and she is not collecting unemployment, I will be the first to apologize. I will even go in person to the SAC.

First of all I never said I was doing Un employment this year thank you very much! I am going to Florida Yes and what bussiness is that of yours. now if you want to start drama thats a different story dont put me down because i am Happy about going on Vacation and being off and who said I was not going to take a second Job maybe My Dh and I were talking aboutbecause we are looking for a house. so you know what i do not have to ask your permission to do anything and again NO I AM NOT DOING UNEMPLOYMENT thank you!

Marcie, that's what unemployment is for. For your situation. Did you get layed off and you needed to look for another job? I am all for that. Isn't that why it is created?
She was collecting unemployment last year knowing she had a job to go back too. I asked her, why not work during that time period, it is the busiest time of the year in retail business.
If she was collecting unemployment because she got layed off and was looking for another job, then that is what it is supposed to be for. But she had a job to go back too and knew it. See what I mean?

I am in a totally different Union than she is. But I'd like to find out why Stony Brook does this?
It doesn't make sense this year especially because we actually have a new winter interecession happening, so there are classes in session and students, faculty, and staff will be more present on campus. I hope the SAC is open and able to handle the volume.

I agree. It's not like she is taking off for months. She is only taking off 1 MONTH, and coming back to work...not going out making babies and cant support them, or collecting workmans com. or disability and is in perfect condition.

Exactly--she totally isn't stalking. A bunch of us work at the same place (peabody, Ro, myself, and several others).
I am more jealous because we work for the same place, and while I am back on the 27th, she has off for a month. I don't begrudge her, but I haven't had a month off since I started working after college at 21 (ETA: I started working the week after I graduated, so I haven't had a month off since high school summer vacation). From an administrative standpoint, I do think the cafeteria should be open while students are living in the dorms for winter intersession. But I'm a peon so no one would listen to me anyway.

Ro! Enjoy your time off!!! Don't let others' negativity ruin your time! I'm assuming you don't get paid while you're off for the month? Well - then you have every right to collect unemployment if you want to...not your fault that your job is shut down...
I know plenty of permanent subs who collect on school district and summer vacations and they have the right to - the school is closed, they don't get paid, they can collect.

thanks everyone! actually the caferteria is open but they only have the cooks there its limited in the winter they only have 12 people working they are very slow and they dont need us. what can i do? if I have to Yes I will look for a second job i was thinking of going to either dunkin donuts or marshalls! that should be fun. but if i need the extra money i will decide when i get back from florida I am so sorry you have to feel to put me down mrs peabody!
