A woman I work with was a hair dresser when she lived out of state and she told me something about beer making your hair shiney. Leave a bottle of beer open over night. Then the next time you wash your hair wet it with the beer first then shampoo, condition and rinse.

I havent tried it yet.

When I do straighten my hair I flip my hair and start to dry from the underside out using a roll brush. I think I have a conair. I normally use a leave in conditioner but I noticed when I straighten my hair if I use the leave in my hair is really soft and looks limp. So I just do the basic shampoo and conditioner in the shower and then dry normal. When I do condition I put it on and leave it on for 2 minutes or so with a clip then rinse.

After drying with the blow dryer on a cool temp I use the flat iron. I have a ceramic one. Then comes the tricky part. While I have the iron in one hand I have the blow dryer in the other on warm. And at the same time move them both down the strands of hair. A little tricky and difficult to really manuevar at first but after a while I got the hang of it.

I have naturally curly hair so straightening it usually lasts about 2 days and then the kink sets in. I tried frizz eaze and some liked it, me I hated it. It really felt like it weighed my hair down and made it feel oily.

I also use the VO5 hot oil treatments once a week.

If you do the Japanese Straightening, You will not have any problems in having your hair straight. And the amount of time that you spend drying it will be cut down to half or less time that you do now. And in the Summer, if you hair tends to get frizzy, after you do this, it won't get frizzy at all.

I have very curly hair. I too have recently started straightening. I use Aveda's Brillance serum and put my hair into several sections. I use a blow dryer with a concentrator tip and dry while using a medium size round brush. It takes me about 45 min (I have A LOT of hair), but the end result is straight with a bit of curl at the ends (like in the picture).

I honestly think it is about practice. I also think that the product you use helps a great deal.

It definitely takes practice! I've gotten my drying time down to 45 mins but I have very curly, very thick hair that is really long.

I use a big round brush with a metal core (like my stylist uses), a Conair Ion Dryer with the concentrator tip (a must!) and I use Thermasilk Straigtening Balm and some Frizz Eaze serum when I'm done.

The trick is to take small sections at a time and pull them taught as you dry. Also, pointing the dryer down as much as possible to keep the hair from going all over the place. Stay on the roots until they are dry first then work your way down slowly. Also, for my hair I have to keep the dryer on the highest, hottest setting.

It is the little nozzle attachment that goes on the end of the dryer. Rather than just the circle opening, it concentrates the air through a more narrow opening. It was my mad search for awhile there until I just bought a new dryer just for the friggin attachment!

When my hair is wet I use Keratase (love this stuff). Than I blow my hair and than I use the flat iron. After I use the iron I put wax in my hair to help my fly aways.

My hair is really naturally straight, so I don't have to do much straightening.

I do go to sally beauty supply and buy Clairol's color gloss (can give you the actual name if you are interested) and use that about every 6-8 weeks. You can use the tint or just the clear gloss.


I normally blow dry my hair upside down and then go over/style it with a straightening iron or a medium sized barrel brush with the metal barrel.

Go to sephora they sell this hair serum called OJON it has peanut oil in it ... It is made by native americans( beautiful hair) It has done wonders for my hair .... Also I use Oscar Blandi Shampoo & Conditioner (for dry hair) sold also at sephora.....

I had to bring this up again bc I bought the same dryer at mrswak....

It was def very weird-but u know what, my hair feels very soft and it took a lottt faster to dry-i think i might return it for the thermal brush attachment-i got the one w/the reg plastic brush.

also....someone here recommended sabino moisture block serum. i now SWEAR by it. and my hair stays stright in the summer!

Sorry to bring this post back again but I bought the Vidal Sassoon one like this dryer and it didnt work. And I missing something? Are you supossed to add some product first? I was so excited to have straight hair using a blow dryer.

For me - it took lots and lots of practice and trial and lots or error. I had to find the right brush for me. I can't handle those brushed the hair salon uses or soft bristle brushes

I use a big roller brush with plastic bristles and/or a vent brush (but took me lots of brushes to find the right one). I like to let it dry a little by itself or on high for a little but not too much or it will be too difficult to get straight - brings out the frizz. Once I do that - I blow dry on high using a brush. Only point the hair dryer down and basically follow the brush closely with the hair dryer. Don't go back up and down with the dryer - just go down and repeat. When I first started doing it or when I need it really straight and have the time - sectioning works great. Use a jaw clip to hold off the sections. Once I got use to blowing my hair straight - I can now do it in about 10 minutes or less. When I am done - I eiether use velcro rollers or a flat iron to get rid of remaining frizz.

Before I dry it I like Wella's Crosstrainer. I have tried lots of products and this is the only one I really liked. I like Redken's Outshine (very little goes a long way) - as a finishing creme - takes out frizz and fly aways.

I have this brush. Doesn't your arm start hurting, actually my shoulder starts hurting when I use this.

Am I a wimp?

I lift weights, but something about the repeative stroke or angle hurts my shoulder.

Okay, maybe I am a wimp!!!!
