What to give $$ to Mailman and Garbage Men?
What do you give your mailman and your garbage men? Our mailman is a neighbor--so it feels weird. Our garbage men have been great, they take everything DH leaves out there---

Why cant you give them cash? They are allowed to take a gift up to $20. We have always given our mailman a cash gift at Christmas...and he has taken it!!

$20 for our Mail Carrier
$40 for our Sanitation Men (so $20 each).

This may be silly, but HOW do you go about tipping the mailman and garbage man? Do you run out when you see them? I have never seen our sanit men because they come after I've left for work. Ditto for the mail person- in fact, now that I live in the sticks, I have a box at the end of the driveway so they don't come up to the house.

I think "officially" postal workers are not supposed to take cash - they suggest something other then cash but not having a value of more then. I thikn it's $25, but might be up to $50. That being said, I don't think there are any who won't take cash - and I'm sure they's prefer it.

We gave the garbage guys $60. They take all sort of trash for us esp when we where doing the construction.
We are giving the our mailman $20.

For the mailman... just put a card inside your mailbox and clearly write MAILMAN in big letters on the envelope. He will take it if he sees it.
For the garbagemen... since my wife is off on Mondays (we have pickup monday mornings)... I am going to leave a note on the garbage bin to ring our bell when they show up... and my wife will hand them the card.
They are getting their card on Monday (day after xmas)... since we just moved in and I have been so busy with other stuff.

DH securely taped their envelope to the top of one of our cans this morning before he left- clearly labelled w/ their names & I put Sanitation under their names.
They come pretty early, & I saw them take it this a.m.

DH is a mail carrier... he gets cash all the time.... usually in a xmas card with his name on the envelope...
He brings home $$$ in cash tips...

I have a family member who was a letter carrier for many years. She got cash from lots of customers (some gave more than $20 too, shhhh don't tell anyone...) and some gave her gifts too - bottles of wine or booze, or small things with cash in a card.

We want to tip our garbage men a really good amount. We have sooooo much garbage every week - I guess since we just moved in a few months ago and are always buying new things. We were thinking $100. Is that good? I have no clue what time they get to the house because I am out of there at 7:30. I guess I'll have to stalk them down one day next week when I'm off.

we give our mailman $30, garbage men get $50/ per man, my hubby waits by theindow on garbage days and hands it to them, it's a little awkward since we know them personally ( from highschool) so it's uncomfortable giving them $ since they seem a little embarassed to take it from us , but we always force them to take it! they deserve it!

i just think its intresting how people get tips from doing there job...
they are not like resturant workers that depends on tips. depending on who your garbage man is and what town you live in, they make a good dollar (i use to work for the town)

do you tip your bank to make sure all your transactions go the way they are suppose to go? or do you tip your car manfacture because the car worked for the past week...?
I know what your saying Red but to my point, everybody should be getting tips ( i don't see any tips or xmas bonus so maybe i'm "baah humbug"
