Are you a needy poster?

I've found, at times, that there are some very "needy" posters here. I guess I just don't understand the need for validation...?

Anyone notice this or is it just me?

Of course there are....LIF I feel is a good mirror of who you meet in life. We all know needy people whether they be from work or family and this site is a sampling of people, so it only makes sense to find those people here too.

not at all. if people want to respond to my threads then that's great and i am appreciative and if others choose not to or have nothing to add, then that is fine too.

I agree.

I also think that at times any of us can be "needy".

I don't know. Maybe I'm a needy poster. Some people might not have anywhere else to turn, and where else can you get so many perspectives from so many different people?

I agree as well.
Granted everyone is "needy" at some point, but there are some people that "thrive" on this and it's never ending.

If you really feel this way, maybe you should tell the people.

i don't think i am needy, but i agree that there are posters who only look for advice on here b/c they don't have a good support system

Re: Are you a needy poster?

I agree with all of you, but I'm not sure I worded the original question correctly.
I totally agree that this is a great place to come to for advice/answers, etc...that's what is so great about this site.
BUT, I guess I'm talking about the "why didn't anyone respond to my post" or "did you like what I had to say?" posts...

Sometimes people are so much into their "own" reality that even if another person approaches them objectively, they will not be able to see it this way if the person was to tell them. So at times and for some people, telling them will not matter nor would it help.

i agree.

i think ALOT of us post things because we NEED answers, advice, ideas, hugs, prayers etc... that's the main idea of this board IMO.

but then there's a different genre where people dont NEED answers... they just need pats on the back for responding to something, or doing something basic... i don't consider myself needy in that sense, but who knows... others might think differently of me Chat Icon

I agree. LIW has a ton of. "Why hasn't anyone responded to me?" 5 minutes after the topic has been posted.

Yup know exactly what you are talking about!! I do think there are some needy posters. But like Moe said it is a mirror image of real life. I look at my students- some for example will participate in class and not care what others think if they make a mistake or if they do well, while others will just yell out all the time 'Look Mrs M I put a dot over my i did you like that?' Or look Joe I brought in my homework today- what do you think about that!-- and my students are in middle school. I think some people lack more social skills than others.

But yes in my long windedness I agree with you!!!

Re: Are you a needy poster?

I dont think there are any more needy people on here than in "real life" (ok, specifically for me a CO-WORKER). I agree with the sampling of people theroy.

I haven't seen a why didn't any one answer me post in awhile.

oops didn't answer the question. No I dont consider myself a needy poster or person either. Others may feel differently but eh, can't please everyone.Chat Icon

Re: Are you a needy poster?

If I were "needy" or doing something like that, or posting too much (I know I've been posting about my problems a lot lately) I would want someone to FM and tell me.

Maybe people don't realize it?

I don't know.

I don't think I've ever posted a "no one loves me" post tho

Jen! shut up! you are NOT needy. the posts that you make are what this board is all about- having other people listen, and help- especially if theyve gone through the same thing Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

its the "pat me on the back just for remembering to wipe after i pee" stuff that i think most people are getting at Chat Icon

I agree. Whether online or in person they will just pull the martyr/victim act. Better to ignore it, even when you want to tear your hair out.

Re: Are you a needy poster?

I don't really see anything wrong if someone posted something "needy" too often. if I don't want to read their posts, I move on.

IMO, these forums can be very theraputic for some and alot of the "needy posts" are a part of what keeps this site going.
