Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

I started eating seafood the year we got married (so I'm a "pesce-vegetarian Chat Icon) - I eat mostly white fishes and just very recently got into Salmon. I will not, however, eat lobster or crab (imitation crab is fine).

It's funny, before becoming veg I didn't like fish so it was no biggie "giving it up"...but now that I've started eating it, I love it!

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

i dont actually enjoy fish. i enjoy shrimp and lobster tail though.

but, since i dont actually eat veggies, i feel like i need to take it step by step since i just recently gave meat up (again!)

i know its a good way of getting protien.

it just irks me when people are mean because they get annoyed i dont eat meat so they ask if i eat seafood and i say yes and they are like "well, how is it different form eating meat?"

im not PROUD, im still aware and feel bad eating it..... but a)i feel like i need it b)they arent mammals (which doesnt make it "ok" but still) and c)its my decision.

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

I eat some seafood. I can't eat a lot of ti and sometimes it grosses me out. I don't love eating it, but it makes my life a lot easier in terms of what I can and can't eat, and going out to dinner, etc.

I'd love to be vegan, but I don't feel up to that kind of sacrifice, so I do what I feel comfortable with.

ETA: Don't let anyone bully you. It's your choice. The wya I see it, I don't tell anyone else what to eat, or that they can't eat fish, so it's not hypocritical. if I said "don't eat fish" while I ate shrimp, it would be different. A lot of people have been like "you're not a *real* vegetarian"..I'm like "ok...fine." I don't really care.

I have friends who don't eat mammals because they feel they're the closest to us, etc.

It might be hard at first, but after awhile people will justa ccept it and deal with it, and if not, you'll learn how to deal with them.

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

Don't let anyone bully you into defending your own personal choice. It's your body, your choice - who the heck has a right to get mad at what you're eating??

Personally, I struggle at times with eating fish - after having eliminated all animal from my diet in one step. But it's my decision, my struggle - I'm only one person and I'm doing the best I can to affect change. I am at peace with my decisions (most of the time Chat Icon) and that's what counts.

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

That's like I have a friend who follows some, but not all of the kosher rules. Someone (not jewish) told him he was a "bad jew."

It's like "screw you"

I don't go around asking people why they DO eat meat or don't eat brussels sprouts

no-- but, I never ate fish even before I became a full veggie. The last time I had fish I was probably like 4 years old. I didn't even like fish sticks! Chat Icon

there are different levels of vegetarianism... I agree with you-- but that's just the way it is. Some people think they are veggies but they eat chicken- don't really get what that's about Chat Icon

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

Well I have a friend who eats chicken and fish but won't eat mammals.

He feels mammals are closest to us in the animal kingdom, and the non-mammals and father from us.

That's part of why I don't eat other things, but I eat fish.

Yes, you're correct. When I was 100% veg it irritated me when someone would call themself a vegetarian, but ate fish...and here I am (a lot less militant than I used to be wrt vegetarianism). If people need to label me, I say I'm a fish eating vegetarian...it's much easier than explaining what I don't eat.

However, it shouldn't be anyone's concern what the point is or isn't...jmo.

I agree with this too. I was a lacto-ovo vegetarian for a long time, but did start eating fish and poultry again. It always amazed me how annoyed other people got with what I was or wasn't eating, even if it was not inconveniencing them in any way. I could appreciate that my mom had a tough time with the fact that I wouldn't eat certain things when I came home, but I never understood why people had an attitude with me when I was ordering at a restaurant.

I didn't try to push my beliefs on other people and would quietly just find something I could eat, but for some reason certain people seem to get very annoyed about what other people choose or don't choose to eat. I don't really get it.

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

I also have leather seats in my car, sooo...

My friend wrote arelaly funny song in HS "Leather wearing vegetarian"

"I said I don't eat meat and I don't eat my shoe"

It's just a personal choice. I can't think of anything that's more personal and has absolutely no effect on anyone else than what you eat. It's even more personal than sex because there's no one else involved.

Chat Icon militant vegetarian!! Chat Icon that's hilarious!

I agree w/you.... it's no one's business. however, if a vegitarian made a omment to someone (like when you were militant about it) and then they found out you ate fish/chicken, etc... I think they have a right to their opinion since they were provoked.

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

For me eating fish is about a few things. One fish are harvested and killed differently. Two, they're no as close to us in the animal kingdom and three, it makes it MUCH easier to find something to eat when I go out to dinner. So many places don't have anything vegetarian to eat, so rodering fish is a good alternative. it just makes it easier to live a healthy, normal lifestyle. It's my choice. I especially don't get when MEAT EATERS are like "you're wrong for eating fish" yeah ok. tell me another one

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

I used to be much stricter on the leather too...no leather anything. But it's become increasingly harder to find durable, non-leather shoes (especially in brown!!)...so I have a few leather shoes. I will not, however, byt leather accessories (like purses/bags or belts or jewelry).

No rhyme or reason...but it works for me Chat Icon

Re: attn: Vegetarians.......

I really had a big debate over my car seats. I thought about it for weeks. But someone told me something that made sense. To make the vynils and synthetics puts a lot of chemicals into the environment, so leather is actually more environmentally sound

LOL - I used to call people like me (pesce-vegetarians) PESKY vegetarians. I thought they made it hard for people to understand what exactly a vegetarian was since everytime I asked a waiter what the veg option was, they'd always point out the fish Chat Icon

Imo, don't talk the talk if you can't walk the walk. I wouldn't dare tell anyone what or how to eat (now that I'm no longer militant Chat Icon) so I expect the same courtesy. For some reason meat-eaters are VERY defensive of their meat and like to target vegetarian's (at least in my experience) which I always find amusing - whether provoked or not.
