I think I might need to go back to work...**Updated on 2nd page**

My dh and I are buying a house very soon and I feel that money is tight...it really isn't now...but it will be soon. I want to contribute with the income and I just need to get out.

I would love to work in a daycare and have Jared attend it as well.

I guess I'm just freaking because everything is changing and I have difficulty with change....moving to a new house, more bills...etc.

Any advice? Recommendations to daycares?

TIA...Chat Icon

What area are you looking to buy in? I would look for daycares in that area so you are close to home and have a short commute! Chat Icon

I am not familiar with the area but will keep my ears open. Also try craigslist. Maybe even post an ad - I am sure with your teaching background lots of people will be contacting you!

I just wanted to give you some Chat Icon It's tough owning a recently purchased home on LI. I work 12 hours a week for some extra spending money. It really takes the stress out of the $$ issue and allows me to use my degree a bit. Good Luck Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: I think I might need to go back to work...

I found working in a daycare to be difficult if you are not the lead teacher. The pay isn't all that great either.

What about tutoring? My best friend is getting $25 an hr.

Teaching adult ed classes? That $$ is great too.

Re: I think I might need to go back to work...

I think it would do you good to get out and work - even PT! Keep your eyes open for daycare centeres looking for "teachers assistants", that's usually what they're called.

ETA: Before I went back to work I was really hesitant to go - I wanted to stay with DD...but now that Im back in the swing of things, I'm really enjoying it and as much as I love to be with her, I like to be out at work for the day too.

Re: I think I might need to go back to work...

I feel your pain. I was so nervous/anxious to leave DD as well.
I found a great job where they let me work 3 days a week and I'm still making the same money I did working FT!
It's definitely an adjustment but try to stay positive--- getting out and doing your own thing is a great feeling! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Look into Twin Oaks. I know someone who was in a similar situation, and loves working there.

Re: I think I might need to go back to work...

Wow we are in the same exact situation!!!! We are in the process of buying a house and selling our co op as well! Money is tight now becuase we havent sold our place yet and had to cough up a down payment on the new house anyway. Im freakin out. I too have to go back to work because money is going to be even tighter once we move. Im looking for opportunities to work from home or to work at night while Dh watches the baby. I though about working at a daycare but I have heard that the pay is not great and you dont get 100% free childcare you would pay ata discounted rate. I figure that with what Im bringing home it really would be the same if I worked at night ( even something like retail) and Dh watched the baby. Of course this may cut into Dh free time to play games and watch sports but oh well. Also Ive been looking into working from home opportunities in customer service and sales- I have come accross some legitimate opportunities out there.

Re: I think I might need to go back to work...

We too are on the fence about me going back. We're in the house a while but nothing has gotten done since we've moved in b/c of money being tight. We need new windows, roof and siding so I feel a little guilty staying home b/c it means we can't do any of those things. Whatever you decide it will work out.

Stefanie - I so know where you are coming from.
I haven't posted anything yet - cause it is not set in stone - but we are buying a house.
Money has been tight - it is going to be even tighter Chat Icon

DH wants me to stay home, but I think if I can find someone to watch her a couple of days a week - I might do something part time.

Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon I'm sure things will all work out for you. Maybe there are things you guys can cut out to save some money. As a former teacher, tutoring is always an option. Can you get your parents/friend/babysitter to watch Jared for a couple of hours a week?

I know a bunch of SAHM that tutor on the side. THey all are certified teachers and make great money. My one friend does it at night and makes $50-$75 and hour. Good luck. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
