Our block party cost us $135 per house. It had a bounce house for the kids for two hours, a dunk tank for two hours and a DJ. Only a 7 houses particpated.

See, that makes much more sense to me than $112 for over 200 houses. Especially since there doesn't seem to be THAT much on the list of activities...where's the rest of that money going? Chat Icon

Im thinking that maybe 20-30 houses are particpating since the block is very long.

We just had our block party and it was only 50.00- and if i didnt have a kid or knew people with kids, it would have been pointless to chip in.

Re: So remember my block party saga

I would NEVER participate. My block party was originally $75 per house (there are only 20 on my block). Only 7 houses participated and it wasn't enough and the money was refunded. Then someone else picked up the block party, charged $40 and more people joined. We had a clown who did magic tricks, games for adults and dkids, a slide, and a firetruck. Someone on the block hired their own DJ (but we all heard the music anyway Chat Icon ). It was OK. BUT, I have kids that could enjoy the block party. If I only had adults, I wouldn't have participated. It's really for the kids. $112 or whatever it was...that's insane. Tell the people you invited it got cancelled. Have a BBQ at your house the following weekend. Screw that block party!

Re: So remember my block party saga

I was just wondering where you live?? My block party was last Sat., and the Skating Dino was supposed to come to my blockparty too to sell light/glo sticks. He didn't show, but they had people who work at United Skates to sell them. It started raing a little bit around 8pm, but it stopped shortly. My neighbor across the street, their son DJ's there when he's not away at school. He was the DJ at our block party for free. Alot of the neighbors didn't participate cuz they were away on vacation. I'm sorry to hear about your BP mess! That's way too much $$. YOu should ask what the money covers, cuz I don't think $112 per house covers just a DJ. Otherwise that's one expensive DJ!

I agree, if all those people are participating someone is def. making money off this... Like I said earlier my BP was 123, the person who ran it listed everything we were having for how long and the cost, I think it was something like this (don't quote me not 100%) we had:

I think that was about it and tips were included.....Hope this helps you

I don't think it makes you look like a cheap lame azz - no one on these boards has even heard of such a ridiculous price for a block party and what exactly are you going to be using that you pay for?? It's not like you're being fed, etc.

I agree with Don. Frankly, I think it's rude and unfair of the organizers to rely on young couples like you and your DH to subsidize something for children you don't have. You guys haven't lived there long and people should be sensitive enough to realize that $112 is a lot of money when it's for things you won't really use.

Wait a minute - $112 and it DOESN'T include food or drinks?? So on top of that you still have to feed the 50 people you invited??? No way Juney - that's too much money. Cancel the party (yeah all 50 of 'em Chat Icon) and go somewhere for the day. I can't understand how with 50 houses participating they need to collect that much with no food included. That's $5600... for a skating dino, DJ, and a water slide???? That's outrageous.

Yes I am in Massapequa, I never heard of the Dino coming around before this... But as far as the BP's a few of my friend's had them this year and they were all about $100 not to much less though.

Who decided on this? Did the whole block consent or was it just a few? I'd be d***ed if I would give $112 when I wasn't even consulted about it well before hand. These people have some nerve.Chat Icon I HATE block parties.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: So remember my block party saga

I would tell her you want a breakdown of where the money is all going, how many people are participating and for the money your gonna pay, tell her you want the damn DJ in front of your house, make sure he's not going to be rall the way down the block so you'll barely hear him. You have a right to know all this, tell the lady, it just seems way to high of a number for a block party and stuff you aren't using. Good Luck!!Chat Icon
