Re: So remember my block party saga
My friend was in a similar situation. We went to her BP a few weeks ago. They just moved into the house and didn't know anyone, so they agreed to participate. I think only 8 or 9 houses participated and the cost was about $100. As the date got closer, they found out that the few people they had met weren't participating and the day of, no one even came up to say hello or welcome them to the block.
I think the people who organize these events are the few who want to do them and they try to guilt everyone else into doing it. I have said this before, but we had these on my block as a kid, but it was a pp price and included food and drinks. I don't get how these became so extravagent and expensive.

Re: So remember my block party saga
I often feel "pressured" to participate in our block party too. But now that I have children, I'm more opt to do it. When we first moved in, we too participated expecting to meet the neighbors when all we ended up doing was hanging out in our driveway with our friends.
My neighbor is FAMOUS for doing what she wants and make sure it's more centered around her childs age, etc. It is annoying but we participate because it's an opportunity to have a gathering at our house w/family and friends.
Did you ask the woman who's organizing it if there are fees associated with getting the permit, is she tipping the dj, etc? I'm just trying to figure out w/that many people on your block, why is it that expensive? Sounds like an awful lot for a BP that has more than 20 houses participated. Maybe you're footing her costo bill for her guests! LOL

Did you speak to the neighbor running the show? How did it go?

Re: So remember my block party saga
We had the same problem last year. We paid $100 and have no kids!! Our friends (for the most part) had children that were babies, so they were not using any of the activites. We were really annoyed that we had to pay so much, but did because we wanted to particpate. However, after speaking to FH about participating this year, we decided we are not going to. It just gets too expensive and I hate having to pay so much money for other people!!

Re: So remember my block party saga
How about this solution?
If you are going to pay the $112, let all of your friends on LIF and LIW know where the party is and we will help celebrate on the block with you.
LOL
