Not anymore since I found out I was PG. I know that if you have it once in a while they say its OK but I dont want to risk it...so I'm not eating any deli meats.

They also suggest not eating mayo (because its made with raw eggs)...so there goes egg salad and chicken salad and ceasar salad (its in the dressing).

Occasionally i will eat deli meat - very rarely though and its from a trusted deli that i go too.

FYI- you can eat mayo-hellmans at least, just not out, so if you make it or you know it was made with hellmans, you are ok...

Yes, sometimes I eat turkey. My doctor told me it was absolutely fine to eat in moderation. So I have it on occasion. I do try to only eat the nitrate-free turkey breast, but I had been doing that bf I was pg anyway.

This is the first time I have even heard that you should stay away from mayo.

I didn't in the first and most of the second. Now I do.
I ate mayo the entire time though.
I am beginning to realize how crazy some of the theories out there are.

I was not eating turkey because of the risk of listeria, but today I was so hungry and nothing sounded good...so I broke down and now I am wondering if I should be worried, but I went to my office cafateria which is very good and clean and private. Some of the delis in NYC scare me......

I ate deli meat and mayo throughout my whole pregnancy.

Mayonnaise from jars, made with pasteurised eggs and within its use-by date is fine -according to my MD-- it's home-made mayonnaise with raw eggs that needs to be avoided. Just be sure it hasn't been left out...check the label before you use to be safe.

Commercial producers pasteurize the yolks.

The same goes for Casear dressing...if you look at the jars at the store, they don't always have raw eggs. Its the fresh ones made in restaurants...

Ofcourse- as you will see from all the different posts, everyone is comfortable with different things..don't eat mayo just because my doctor says its ok (I hate mayo myself) but you may want to ask your own doctor his/her opinion.

I eat both mayo and deli meats..if you listen to ALL these things not to eat you drive yourself nuts!

besides the fact, do you know what your mothers ate when preg with you..probably anything and everything..and smoked on top of it..

No, I am afraid of bacteria..

but of course,I am craving ham and swiss sandwiches....

I think if the meat is heated through it would be fine...

I ate deli meat several times in the 1st T - my dr said it was ok in moderation from a trusted source....the thing with deli meats is the fear of listeria which he said he hasnt seen in 25 yrs...so of course you can never be too careful, but I think you're fine if you eat them once in awhile..

Everything in moderation - FYI - you can nook the deli meats for like 15 sec.s to kill any traces of listeria. That's what I'll do if I eat out - otherwise for home I buy the prepackaged deli meats.

Yes, I eat deli meats every once in a while...I didn't eat them much before getting pg...so, I haven't really cut back.

NO WAY! To much of a risk with bacteria and all the preservatives used in Deli Meats.
