I felt I made a constructive response, and so did many other posters. She only responded to what she wanted to respond to. She didn't say "oh, that's a good idea" or "I'm going to 114th and st nicholas way, what is that like?" there was nothing constructive about any of her posts, including the first one.

OK....well i think i see both sides of the coin here
1. I think the girl did have preconceived notions about "Harlem"...
...totally natural IMO,
I had the same fears and concerns
nothing that a little educations and experience would clear up
2. i really didn't think anyone was bashing her in the beginning...even that first girl...
Lordy knows we all seen some bashing and i think she may have been kurt but not overly done..
AND i think the majority of the people that responded were in fact trying to help and educate her on the area...
3. IMO she OBVIOUSLY didn't want to hear peoples opinions, the very thing she was asking for..She did get defensive and didn't want to hear a thing about the area at all
otherwise she may have just thanked a few girls who came on respectfully and attempted to enlighten her...

there is no difference so I am not sure what you mean... Of course you like Washington heights .. you were a part of it or your Boyfriends family was so there is some roots there.
I'm just saying, it doesn't matter where exactly she was going in harlem. The attitude is the same. Also, I don't think she even knew. It didn't seem like she knew harlem well enough to even know what the area was like where she was going. She seemed to just have a vague idea of what "HARLEM" looks like. Also, we were saying wash heights v harlem, so I said what difference does it make, where it is, it's the attitude.
Well from what I read she already was there before hence her apprehension of going again 
She said she'd been to HARLEM before, not the same area... I just think she has an impression of HARLEM, and doens;t really know the area, JMO. She could be going so far from where she was originally.
but anyway, you're right, Chrissy. ENOUGH! This is pointless

exactly, even after she was informed of all the facts she said everyone else was wrong.
she has issues.

I think some people are missing the point as I had stated earlier and unbelievable keeps bringing up. This OP was not as bad as you think. The second person is EXACTLY what started the controversy followed by other people attacking her based on the first persons response. Lolita, I think it would have been great for you to nicely educate her however your strategy might have been. I think thats what she was looking for more or less. I think some of her wording was indeed off but her nastiness stemmed from poster #2.
Completely agree. This has been taken way too far. There was really no reason to start 2 more posts on this subject and make that girl feel even more horrible by making fun of her. Everyone is entitled to their own feelings.

My lord have you never worded something incorrectly? And if she did specify? Imo this is a public forum So everyone knows someone who knows someone who lived there or did something there so no matter what we say someone always seems to take it personally (myself included)it is the nature of this board .. we can't fix that what I find offensive you may not or what I can tolerate someone else might not be able to so We just have to accepty the reality of it.

I agree with you. But like I said in her post, I don't like the way she phrased things, but if she's afraid, she's afraid, and I posted about possible solutions, and my experiences and other people did similar things, and she did not respond at all to any positive comments. That's what bothers me about it...but it's a message board, so whatever. stuff happens
