Re: Smokers charged more for health insurance

I dittoed Shelly's post as she made some great arguments.
I have a personal example as my mom passed of lung cancer. She did quit 6 years before she was diagnosed. She was also the breadwinner in the family as my father was not working at the time. Something like this could have been potentially devastating for my family as she held her own insurance and was a smoker. We were not of wealthy means. The point made about quitting is a good one as well. About how much time must go by after quitting before you are officially branded a "non smoker?"
Just something to think about as this would not only effect the individual but the families as well.

I can understand the thought behind it but I'm really uncomfortable with the other doors that can be opened as a result of something like this being approved. I'd rather see cigarettes being taxed out the wazoo.

I am all for extra taxing, that makes so much more sense.
What's next, melanoma patients' rates going up because of too much time in a tanning bed?
