Dumb question about wedding RSVP

So today I received my cousin's wedding invitation in the mail. Within a couple of minutes, I filled out the RSVP and mailed it out since I was going out anyway to do errands.

My mother said that it looked horrible and pathetic that I send my RSVP too early. She said it looked like I was aching to go to the wedding. So now she's not going to send the RSVP till the day its due.

I'm not married and have no idea about wedding etiquette, but I always send the RSVP early because I thought that is what the bride wanted and she's already stressed enough.

Who's right, my mother or I?

I do what you do, and as a bride, I appreciated early responses!

Re: Dumb question about wedding RSVP

You're right. I'd rather get the responses all within the first few days and know the head count. It doesn't look desperate at all. Most people appreciate prompt responses.

Re: Dumb question about wedding RSVP

Definately earlier the better!!! B/f my wedding, I was one of those awful people who waited till the last minute- not because I was on the fence about going (and most of the people knew I was coming anyway) but just cause I would forget. Once I was the bride, I realized how much I s*cked! So, now I try to send them out right away. I LOVED getting some of my responses 2 days after I mailed them out!! It was such a happy feeling!!!Chat Icon

I'd be willing to bet that the bride has a couple of other things on her mind rather than "hmm...this response is early, they must be over-eager to come to my wedding, what losers." Chat Icon

I always send them right back out. I don't think it's pathetic, I think it's thoughtful.

not to be rude but your mom is flattering herself to think that the bride would analyze when she receives an RSVP. all we care about is that we receive the replies and not have to resort to calling the guests.

I would say to send it as soon as you know you're definitely going. My friends & I used to try to get ours in first.
