I live in Coram and work in Melville. I take the LIE to work and my commute time changes everyday. There are days that I fly here and get to work in 40 minutes and there are days that for no reason that I could see traffic was a nightmare and it has taken me an hour and a half. Commuting stinks and so does the LIE.
Same here except I live in Miller Place
I did this drive from Farmingville to Melville and I cursed the LIE every morning. The is no rhyme or reason to the traffic. It just is. Thank goodness I live in Hauppauge now and it is half the commute.

Before I got married, I lived in Commack and worked in New Hyde Park. It took me anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on traffic, and if there was an accident or bad weather, forget it, it seemed like forever!!!

Re: People who live in Suffolk and work in Nassau
My DH does this.
We live in Deer Park. He travels to Great Neck (practically Queens)
He commutes via LIE.
It takes him anywhere from 1/2 hour to 1 1/2 hours to get to work and anywhere from 1 hour to 2 hours to get home.
It all depends on traffic, accidents, and weather!
If school is out and it is a beautiful sunny day with no accidents, he can get to work in a 1/2 hour.
If there is a snow storm, it can take him about 3 HOURS to get home!!!!!
Edited to Add: It depends on what time he leaves too. 10 minutes can make a 1/2 hour difference!!!
