No but you can blame the government. If I were Natalee's mom and saw how the government handled the investigation I would go bonkers myself.

I am sure the Diallo family feels the same way about NYC government. I think it is naive to think our justice system is so much better and these things don't happen here.

I also think that a boycott hurts the small business owners and regular people trying to support their families, not the higher-ups in government.

I never said our justice system was any better.

So let's say Natalee did these drugs that were in her possession, if she did get stoned and her body went into shock and she died from it, then why haven't they been able to find her body?

There is still some kind of foul play here.

I think you are missing the point and no pun intended.
No one is saying that there is not some kind of foul play involved. Ofcourse there is. And I wouldn't doubt that if that was the case and she was hanging out with these guys, that they freaked out and something went wrong....

And I think in some cases, the resources that the US have in terms of solving cases is a lot better than some Caribbean countries. Forensic science here for example.....

I don't think anyone on this thread said that they don't think foul play is involved. But to not recognize the erroneous choices Natalie (and her friends) made that night in addition to foul play is being very One Sided. As I stated earlier - this is a tragedy ... and whoever is ultimately responsible for her death or the coverup of her disappearence should have to pay.

There are also so many crimes in the US that go unsolved. Look at Jean Benet Ramsey. The girl was murdered in her own home and still no one knows what happened. There are also so many murders and kidnapping of children, here and abroad, who are not white and beautiful that get no press. Its really sad. I wonder if people would even know this story if she wasn't pretty.

I haven't been following the investigation so closely, so I don't know what the Aruba government has or has not done. But I don't think that the mere fact that they haven't solved the crime is a refelection on the police's capabilities.

It is definitely possible that because the son of a rich, white judge was involved that the investigation was tampered or just not as thorough. But then again it may not have been. I don't know enough to judge the situation.

Article:

2 guilty in slay as ma cries racism

BY NANCIE L. KATZ
DAILY NEWS STAFF WRITER

Two thugs were convicted yesterday of murdering a brilliant Hunter College student - but even as the victim's grieving mom hailed the verdict, she branded the cops who investigated the case racists.
"All I got was disrespect in the highest degree from police and press," cried Romona Moore's mother, Elle Carmichael. "They never called when I said my daughter was missing. This is racist!"

Moore, 21, was kidnapped, raped, tortured and strangled in April 2003 after disappearing on her way to a Brooklyn Burger King.

Troy Hendrix, 22, was convicted of first-degree murder in just a few hours, and a separate jury returned the same verdict for Kayson Pearson, 23, in less than a day. Both were also convicted in the kidnap and rape of a 15-year-old girl and face up to life in prison.

Neither defendant was present. Both had been banned from Brooklyn Supreme Court after trying to escape on Jan. 19 during their first trial. Armed with plastic shivs, Pearson stabbed his own attorney and Hendrix jumped a court officer and tried to grab his gun.

Moore's friends and family - who showed up daily in quiet dignity for two months for two trials - clapped and cheered at both verdicts. Carmichael wiped away tears.

"Justice is served," she said.

But she also railed at the news media and cops for ignoring her pleas for help when her reliable, shy daughter disappeared. She charged that far more attention was paid to the case of murdered grad student Imette St. Guillen.

Cops refused to search for Moore at first, saying she was over 21 and probably with a boyfriend, Carmichael said. The family put up its own missing posters.

By the time cops began looking, five days after her disappearance, it was too late. Moore's body was found on May 10, 16 days after she vanished. She had been slashed, burned, chained and raped.

"This was a ... decent, intelligent college girl," Carmichael said. "Look at the case of Imette! If my daughter had gotten the attention she got in the front-page news, maybe she wouldn't be dead! She's a little black girl."

Brooklyn District Attorney Charles Hynes denied that law enforcement was biased in the Moore case.

Until they find a body, they won't be charged with murder..just like the civil suit against Juron that was filed in NY..dropped because NY has no jurisdiction, you can't PROVE rape if he's not admitting it & there is no victim to testify.
For me the wall to wall media coverage of NH was what Chat Icon me. If it wasn't for Hurricane Katrina.. Greta would have her mother on tonight for the XXXX time in a row!

Oh,I have a heart.. just no tolerance for stupidity. Unfortunately Natalee Holloway is what I'd classify as stupid (as per her actions).
You're right, all deaths are tragedy..but in different degrees... how can you compare an innocent child that was killed in the middle of the night while peacefully sleeping in her bed..to an intoxicated partying teenager?

Actually,Yesterday my aunt died in Europe..she was 86 ( an adult) and very ill ... she lived a full life..sad but NOT a tragedy.

Re: Natalee Halloway's last photo...

I agree that not all deaths are tragedies. I was almost relieved when my Great Grandmother finally passed. It was what she had wanted for years. She was miserable and confined to a bed. To her that wasn't life and I have to agree.

As far as this case, I believe that she was a young lady having the time of her life in Aruba. I do think that her death is tragic if she was murdered, because I don't think she ever thought that she was putting herself in danger. I can say that back in the day I did some pretty stupid things and was fortunate to live and learn. Unfortuately, she didn't get the same opportunity.

I notice that a lot and I think it's true. During my first year teaching a girl who'd finished 8th grade the year before was murdered in a building across the street from our school. There were a couple of small stories, no manhunt. I always wonder if she's been white and middle/upper class if there'd have been more coverage and closure to the case. And I think sometimes the press attention does have an effect on solving a case.

As for Natalee, frankly, I bet 90% of us here, if not more, have done things that were stupid and could have resulted in injury or death. I did and I know many of my friends did, if not all of them. I am in no position to judge her for what she did.

Let's face it, most teens have an invincibility complex.

She made an error in judgment. Her death is still a tragedy. Perhaps she put herself in a bad situation, but she did not deserve to die. We've all done stupid things before. I think you're being a little harsh by saying you have no tolerance for stupidity. Should we assume you've never made a mistake? Chat Icon

Re: Natalee Halloway's last photo...

I'm a high school guidance counselor and I can assure you that there are many more teenagers drinking and doing drugs nowadays than when we all went to school. We are very naive to what goes on. Sooo many kids use and not just the "stoners." Kids from every walk of life, a lot of them A students. I've had 9th graders come to school drunk and I can't tell you how many kids walk around school stoned. The boys refer to sleepaway camp as pot and blow job camp because that's the majority of what goes on there!

For someone to imply in their comments on this post that Natalee's death was any less a tragedy because she was possibly under the influence and (gasp) may have actually chosen, on her own accord, to take drugs or drink is absolutely asinine. If anyone has any teenagers in their families - siblings, cousins, etc - there is a better possibility than not that they have used alcohol or drugs, even if only once. Does this mean that's it's any less a tragedy if one of them died? I wouldn't think you would think so thenChat Icon

And before you make a comment about the high school I must work in - I work in one of the top districts on Long Island - pretty much the one that is always named first when people want to know what the "good districts" are on LI.

this thread has gotten way out of hand. She was a "kid" 18 years old or not.. She may not have made the best choices that night and because of that it might have caused her death.. to call her stupid.... my god....thats absolutely insane....

anyone could have made those decisions she did.... i have a 16 year old sister who confides in me- already, "good" kids and all, she hasnt made some good choices in some situations she has been in....i have learned about high school and how it is nowadays and like michal said, it is A LOT different then when we went to school....
