Was your doctor right? Poll

As you got close to your EDD, and the doctor estimated how big your baby was, based on sonogram and/or measuring, was the estimate of the baby's weight close to what the baby was at birth?

Absolutely. At 32 weeks, Andrew was estimated at 5.5 lbs. He was born at 37 weeks at 9 lbs. 7 oz. We knew he was big all along. My doc says this baby is smaller than Andrew, thankfully!

Doctor told me that he doubted she would be over 5lbs because of the position she was in- born 2 weeks early- at 8 pounds 13 ounces via scheduled c-section

Re: Was your doctor right? Poll

At 32 weeks they measured my son weighing 3 lbs 12 oz. My doc didn't tell predict how much he'd weigh at birth but did say he would most likely be an average sized baby...not to big but not too small. He was born at 39 weeks 2 days weighing 7lbs 15 oz.

They had me so scared, estimating her weight at over 10 pounds @ 40 weeks. She was born 8 days late @ 7lbs 15oz. Dont put to much faith in the doctors 'guess'

They had him at 10+Chat Icon

He was 8 lbs even. I actually found that the midwife in labor and delivery was right on the money and she did it by just feeling my bellyChat Icon

Re: Was your doctor right? Poll

The first was right. She was 7 lb 3 oz.

My second one (I had to change OB's too) never told me. He just always said decent sized. It wasn't until I was in labor that I knew what he was saying. I think he purposely never said anything to me. The Resident and L/D Nurses were the ones that broke the news that I was have a very large baby. Chat Icon No clue he'd come out at 9 pounds and *that* big of a head. My OB just laughed when I asked if he knew. Chat Icon

Re: Was your doctor right? Poll

A few days before I went into labor I had a sono and it was right on target. The day of labor my dr felt my belly and said about 7lbs. My baby was 7lbs 2 oz! My SIL however was not so lucky all her sonos were saying her baby was 10-11 lbs and the baby was only 8.5lbs! way off. All along they told her she was having a huge baby...and it wasn't that huge considering she was also 10 days late!

My last u/s was in the hospital during my induction and they estimated him at 8lbs 5oz. He was born 7lbs 11oz. In baby terms, I don't consider that even close.
