Silly question: Why are Brooklyn and Queens people
not considered Long Islanders? Technically they ARE living ON Long Island!

I totally agree; I used to date a guy in Brooklyn and he would come "out to the Island" to pick me up...i was like tell me again what bridge you crossed to get here!!!

I totally agree; I used to date a guy in Brooklyn and he would come "out to the Island" to pick me up...i was like tell me again what bridge you crossed to get here!!!

To me LI is a different world. When i was a kid when we went to LI it was "going to the country."
In Brooklyn and Queens, I think we can relate to NYC more, because yes, we are a part of NYC. We have NYC government, NYC laws, NYC taxes, NYC school system, NYC water. Nassau and Suffolk ahve a lot more in common with each other than with brooklyn of queens and brooklyn and queens have a lot more in common with the other 3 boroughs than with LI.
Most NYC residents do NOT live in Manhattan.
Just look at the car insurance rates and you'll see the IS a difference btw NYC and LI

The non-numbered streets thing STILL freaks me out...
I'm like "how the hell do people know where to go?"
Everywhere in LI, someone has to tell you how to get there, wheras in parts of the city with numbered streets, you get the address and you go.

I still can't get used to the "curviness" of the streets out here. I tried driving "around the block" one day and got totally lost!!!!  Why can't things be in a square like in Queens???

Being on LI all my life I ventured to Queens to hit some bar/clubs.
Try being a LI girl who goes down a ONE WAY street the WRONG WAY!!!!
Then the no right on RED???? Argh!

That happens me all the time. I ahve learned not to "go around the block" in LI. It doesn't work....you end up completely lost and in the next town....ahhhh
