When you are ready to start a family, will you be able to stay home?

How will you work out the expenses?
Does your DH make enough to support the monthly bills and for you to stay home?

No at all. DH and I pretty much make the same amount so cutting our income in 1/2 is not doable. I'm still holding out for the possibility of working p/t though.

That is our plan, for me to stay home. DH makes enough to cover all expenses of the house and more but you never know what can happen. I def want to work though part time after the baby is born my mom wants to watch the baby for like 2 days- but I have to get PG first! Chat Icon my job is flexible where I can work per diam- sp.

Currently I make way more than FI, but we should even out by the time we're ready for kids. That doesn't mean I'll be able to stay home, but I want to try to make it happen, at least for the first year or two.

I will probably be able to go back part time but we will need the two salaries.

Same here. I'm looking into teaching and/or working my current job with flex hours.

when i am ready to have a family it depends if i cant afford to find a babysitter and if the childcare is so expensive i might have to stay at home especially if i have twins in the future. No I am not pregnant just been told by all psychics i am going to have twins.Chat Icon

I currently stay home, but things are tight and we live paycheck to paycheck. For now, that's a sacrifice we've chosen to make. Probably within the next few months I'll go back p/t

Right now I do stay home with our son. But like posted above we pretty much live paycheck to paycheck for the most part.

I make a little more than DH but he gets to work from home 2 days a week. So he'll be more of a stay at home dad, part time anyway. I will have to keep my job. Plus my benefits are better.

Re: When you are ready to start a family, will you be able to stay home?

As long as we are living on Long Island, we won't be able to afford to have me stay home when we have a child. Had we bought a house or land 5 years ago, it may be a different story.

No. We prefer and probably need both salaries (I never completely worked it out). We could probably work it so I could stay home (making a lot of sacrifices) but we choose not to.

Re: When you are ready to start a family, will you be able to stay home?

I went back to work after my daughter. When we bought our house, the decision was pretty much made that I would have to work. However, we made a deal that in 4 years (when my husband retires - he's a detective) I can quit or work PT because he'll get another job to supplement my income. My goal is to work PT. I'd love to be able to get my child off/on the bus and then be home for them in the afternoon.

i just posted about this on TTC. I have to somehow make it happen though. I can't imagine not being home at least part time with the baby.

Re: When you are ready to start a family, will you be able to stay home?

I am going to stay home. I make about 30% of our household income. Half of DH's income comes from a family business and my FIL already said I could work there p/t and bring the baby to work once we have kids.

My husband and I have already discussed this. It's very important to both of us that I say home and raise our children. He would get 3 jobs if he had to in order to have me be home with them Chat Icon

I would love to, and DH wants me to also. We will have to see when we decide to TTC what our situation is. We are thinking I will be able to stay home, maybe try some work from home stuff.

We definitely will be able to have me stay home-- we have always limited ourselves in terms of homes we could afford, cars we could afford, to make sure it was doable just on DH's income. So I'm happy we did that.

Problem is, I haven't been able to get pg! You just can't win....
