yes, but the YANKEES are paying for it themselves. the only thing the city is being asked to pay for is the infrastructure (new transportation hubs, etc) that will be needed to accomodate the commuters.

The Yankee Corporation announced anout 3 months ago that they would be building a new stadium. The old one will be donated to the city to be used for high school championships and the like.
The Yankees are also paying for the entire stadium themselves. It is badly needed. The current stadium is a wind tunnel which desperately needs updating.

BUT 800 million dollars? Donate it for goodness sakes if they are paying for it themselves.....
I just dont see the need really for the brand new stadiums...

Um no offense but WHAT are you talkig about? The Yankees making this announcement today has NOTHING to do with what just happened with the whole dumb new Shea/Olympics thing..
These plans for a new Yankee stadium have been in the works for awhile now...

I'm chillin' all right.. I was just trying to clarify the fact that YOU made an assumption in yoru post that was entirely incorrect
And I did not say the NEW SHEA was "dumb" I feel the PROPOSAL to build this Stadium now is DUMB and not necessary - especially if the main purpose of building the stadium is to try to win the Olympics for NY - I DO NOT want the darn OLYMPICS ANYWHERE in the NYC area 
Believe me, I dont want the Mets playing in Yankee Stadium while the "new stadium" is being built ANYMORE than you do

A new Shea is necessary whether we have the olympics or not. Why is shea not necessary and yankee stadium necessary...they are both stadiums that need a new look.....
Now if they both get new stadiums where would they be playing their home games? Assuming these stadiums are built at the same time...

As for what will happen to both teams if both stadiums are rebuilt at the same time, well your guess is as good as mine THough I find it highly unlikely that would EVER happen

A new She is definately needed.
Being that these are both new stadiums, the teams would play in the existing fields until the new parks are built.

I agree! I dont think a new stadium is needed yet at this point for either team. I dont think revenue would pick up enough for Shea to justify it Nor for Yankee Stadium..which as unappealing at times tthat it is..I love THAT about it, wouldnt want a new stadium.
I Dont care whos paying for it. Put the two costs together at what a billion dollars and see how un needed it it.
By the homeless people some houses instead!

While I agree that Yankee stadium could use some help.... Its yankee stadium its an awesome stadium and like a landmark you know.. Its been around forever.
I don't really see why shea needs a new one? Its not falling down? Its not as old as Yankee stadium.
