That's why I have to confess... I get annoyed when people who aren't pregnant or parents post trying to give advice on this board. You just don't understand! Its not something mean, I didn't either until I became a mom. Its just a whole other world.

I feel the same way. This is aside from the "my neice had the same thing, my sister tried..." posts. They don't bother me. It's the "when I'm a parent, I'm going to....x,y & z" ones that annoy me. I may have thought that way, but am glad I never said anything.

I still remember the guy on the train comparing his dog to my son.Chat Icon His wife was pregnant at the time. I said "I know you think of your dog as a child, but I can tell you if your dog harms your baby, you can say good bye to him as you drop him off at someone else's house." He also compared training his dog to an unruly chld. Now I try not to smirk as I hear his stories of his kid throwing himself on the floor. I have to bite my lip so I don't say "So why don't you just say "Bad boy!" in a firm voice or try giving him a treat."Chat Icon

I think I JUST saw what you are referring to.

I wish some people would think a little longer or harder before they post things. You never know what the future holds.

Also, people who are not in the situation find it so easy to judge one way or the other. Chat Icon

I guess I understnad but I also realize that some people do understand (not all, but some!) before I had Samantha I was able to learn alot by helping out friends with kids and while they weren't mine persay, I learned alot and have now gotten some great advice from people without kids too! (not everyone can/chooses to have kids but can offer wonderful insight!)

No they don't and I can say that because I was DEFINITELY one of them. I couldn't understand why people couldn't leave their kids overnight, or go on vacation, etc. Now I totally get it and I am probably worse than the people I couldn't understand. Chat Icon

Re: I've said it before and I'll say it again

I love it when my sinlge SIL gets pissy with my DH's other sisters kids because they are sitting QUIETLY watching one hour of television! "They should be outside, getting fresh air." UMMM....yeah....they just were....and did i mention they are sitting QUIETLY and I'm enjoying a hot cup of coffee!"

Three hours of babysitting/visiting does not make you all- knowing on what it is like to be a parent 24-7.

being a mom changes everything.

You can't talk about what you haven't experienced yet.

Some people can be so hurtful. I like to think that they don't realize what they are doing/saying. Although, I am not sure that's the case.

why not?

you didn't have opinions prior to having kids?

you don't have opinions on how other parents do things and make personal choices for yourself based on what you believe? i know i have had many "W-T-F" thoughts of certain parenting choices prior to having DD, and now that i have her i STILL think the same thing! Chat Icon

i truly don't understand why people get "offended" by other's opinions be it speaking from experience or not. i also don't understand why some topics turn into "right vs. wrong" based on what one elects to do for oneself.

i as a parent am confident with who i am and the choices i have made so far. it's far from perfect, but given our resources and priorities we do the best we can. i think for the most part everyone strives to do this. since when has parenting made people all knowing? sh!ts are sh!ts with or without kids...

i'm not directing all this towards you, but what i quoted along with the other posts irked me, but for different reasons...

I personally do not have any kids yet but my coworker is always trying to compare her dog to another coworkers 3 sons. I may not have kids yet but I realize how ridiculous she is. She even went so far as to say that her dog creates as much laundry as three boys ages 5,6 & 12

I agree....I thought the same thing just tonight as my 2 year old ran wild in Friendly's refusing to sit in her high chair. A few years ago I would have said "what kind of Mom let's her child act like that in a restaurant?"So you really can't ever understand until you have a child..Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
