I have never been offended by the word Orient or Oriental, but then again, I don't know the history behind it either.
I see it has an old fashioned, but non-offensive term. It has been a really long time since I hear anyone actually say either of those words, and they were older people.

Now why is Oriental a bad word?? WHen did this happen and why? My SIL and nephew are Chinese....not being racist here, really trying to get it...
I remember being taught it was a "bad" word b/c it was Eurocentric. Europe was the focal point and anything to the east of Europe was the Orient. It seems to be more offensive though b/c of the views about East vs. West hundreds of years ago. I thought this was interesting. Orient
