OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

I know Aol does it. I know Bloomingdales does it. I know Dell and HP do it. I just called Macys and I guess they do it.

I got a bill in the mail from Macys. It was passed due. I just realized that I havent been getting paper bills from them. I paid online for a few months. I know some companies have stopped sending paper bills if you pay online.

WELL I call and the guy who answers the phone I could barely understand. He asked me to repeat my Info at least 6 times. Finally hung up on him. I got so annoyed!!!

IF YOU CANT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH OR I CAN'T UNDERSTAND YOU YOU SHOULDN'T BE ANSWERING MY PHONE CALLS!!!!!!!!!

Re: OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

travelocity's hotel department does it as well. I hung up the phone sooooo confused, not knowing what I booked or where. I am so against out sourcing. So many Americans have lost their jobs.

This guy (who has a very indian accent) said they will reverse my late charges! That was just 2 easy. Leads me to believe they haven't been sending me statments!

They took off 70.00 worth of late charges and finance fees. Chat Icon

Re: OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

DH called some place that outsourced to India for customer support and the guy who answered said, "This is Bob" in a very heavy Indian accent. So my husband said, "You name isn't Bob, what's your real name?" (so he could talk with him during the conversation). I guess they try to make the people answering the calls sound more "Americanized". This has happened to him a few times.

Re: OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

My company is going to be doing this shortly which means I'll be out of a job. They are "outsourcing" to India our jobs.

I wonder how many of our clients will be happy about their confidential information heading over to parts unknownChat Icon Or having "Bob" pick up the phone and deal with their issues when they can't communicate clearly what their problems are to english speaking representativesChat Icon

OMG I just had to deal with them and it was awful.

In addition to NOT being able to solve my problem and NOT understanding what I was saying, he also kept calling me Miss Lauren. Which was annoying. Chat Icon

Our help desk at work is outsourced. It just keeps happening!!

And they wonder why we have unemployment issues in the US!!!

Many companies do this, it's called outsourcing. I called Allstate a few months ago for a claim and they were in Ireland Chat Icon Dh also called AOL and they are in India. They try to sound as American as possible but it doesn't work. It's sad because many people here in AMerica get laid off and the companies go to other countries to pay cheaper rates for employees. I saw this in Tv a while back. The new employees are given American names and crash courses in English to lose their native accents. It's really sad, cause good, hardworking people here are losing their jobs.

Actually... their english names are supposedly called their "alias".

No offense to Indian people... but whenever I get one of these on the phone... it automatically puts me in a bad mood. Its so aggrevating to deal with.

You can add Microsoft to the list too. Their support was in the states for so long.... not anymore. Their support suks now.

Re: OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

Computer Associates was actually one of the very early companies to do this. I remember dealing with India with them back in 2000.

Oh... what a pain in the a__. And they lost a lot of business because IT people just didn't want to have to deal with India to get support.

The problem now is... so many companies are doing it... its not like you can drop company A to go to company B.... cause company B deals with India too.

The problem is growing at an exponential level. Very crappy.

I completely agree. It is hard to "boycott" and show support to a competitor when they are all doing it.

My company outsources to the Philippines and I hate it. What is funny, though, is they get to make up their own "American" names so you get to speak to people named Thor, Cat, Ethel, Ju, etc....

My DH is an economist and he was telling me that this is HUGE (and I have experienced it too- my CC company called about offering me that insurance, I politely told the guy no thanks, and he called back almost right away, still plugging the insurance even though I'd said no thanks! Chat Icon )

DH was telling me that companies began doing this because Indian workers are cheaper, but these are great jobs for them. And many of these people have good degrees in things like engineering, computer science, etc., but India's economy cannot support those jobs in large numbers.

Re: OMG... RE: people in India answering our phone calls.

Yeah, whats really interesting about this is that most of these people have master's degrees answering the calls, it's just that the language barrier creates a problem
