How much does it cost to move out of state?
lets say for an apt full of furniture, on average, how much do you think it would cost for movers?
I know this is pretty vague  just trying to get a ball park.

For us, it was $1700. That's pretty average. We HATE the company we used though. HATE THEM! 
But most of the rates we got were in the $1300-2400 range.

jeez! and you moved from an apt too. my friend moved to GA 2 yrs ago and it cost her $3k but she had a 3000 sq foot house FULL of furniture and 3 kids worth of stuff.

Yeah, I had about 1000sq ft apt. It was pretty "big" I guess. Although EVERYTHING fit into my 600+ sq ft garage with no problems! They did pack a lot of my things...and broke most of them. 
Moving SUCKS!! 
DH said next time we're doing it ourselves...renting a U-Haul, packing, etc. My sister went this route (of course she had a lot of help) and moved (locally) a 5 bedroom, 3 bath house in one day!

we're definitely not doing it ourselves. we might have some help on the NY end. but not where we're going 
My friend also had problems with her movers. a lot of their stuff was broken and she got squat from the insurance! movers just stink!

Movers as a whole do stink. But there have to be good ones out there. Just not mine!
The same weekend we got ours they delivered to other people and it resulted in 2 BBB complaints (we were one of them). They suck!
Anyway, Susan had recommendations for me...and I would def start that search now. Although the fall is a slow time (school's in session).
Can I say it again? Sooo excited!  
And I'm not that far...if you need help settling in. I mean it! 
Yes, in my mind you moved already!

We moved ourselves from Colorado to NY with a Penske truck and it was $700 for the truck back in 2003

 WOW! I imagine that a move that far would have cost you several times that amount!!

When I moved from LI to NJ in 1999, it cost me the price of a U-Haul Truck and a pizza and beer for my brother and his friend that moved me. Total probably cost me about $200
Just as a side note, when DH was ready to sell his condo this past February, we hired movers because he just had waaaaaaaaaaay too much stuff (think of Sanford and Son  ) The move was only 35 miles and cost us $1200!

We moved 6+ years ago from NY to GA by ourselves. We rented a Uhaul, it cost $1800 with gas at the time.
Where are going to move?

I don't know why it cost so much for the UHaul, but in our favor the company DH works for paid for his expenses. so we actually paid out of pocket $0.

Mom and Dad moved from Mineola to AZ..it cost about $3K-6 yrs ago. They also shipped their car...that cost about $2500. Apt to apt
I can ask them the name again..I don't remember. Everything came ok and the car was fine. They had a good experience but movers just s u c k in general.

that won't work... we don't have anyone on the other end to help. we have some VERY heavy items. when we got our new couch last month, my DH had to help the 2 delivery guys b/c is it so heavy. and that's just one thing.

DH and I just moved ourselves to CT. IT cost us about 300-500 dollars-we rented a u-haul truck and had his parents to help us... that was hard! We were thinking if we had to move again, we would hire people b/c of all the stuff we have!

ughhh...kind of last minute notice. We were only suppose to rent a trailer and use BIL's truck, he backed out and we only had a week to shop around.
Truck rentals are expensive since hardly anyone moves to NY. We rented a truck FL to NY once and it was 400.00. For one way rentals, if you drive it from NY, the trucks have a hard time finding their way back up to NY.

Their is also a website that I go off another board that you can hire someone in the state you are moving to, to help you unpack.
