You know you live in New York when....

1] You say "the city" and expect everyone to know that this means Manhattan.

2] You've considered stabbing someone just for saying "The Big Apple."

3] You live in New Yawk ... not New York.

4] You have never been to the Statue of Liberty or the Empire State Building.

5] You can get into a 4-hour argument about how to get from Columbus Circle to Battery Park at 3:30 on the Friday before a long weekend, but can't find Wisconsin on a map.

6] Sometimes you forget that Staten Island is part of New Yawk.

7] You consider Westchester "Upstate."

8] The only thing in the Bronx is a Zoo and the Yankees.
Yankee Stadium is just "The Stadium", and Shea Stadium is "Shea."

9] You use the phrase "Ugh, tourists!" many times.

10] As far as you're concerned, the state of New York is the 5 boroughs, baby.

11] You think Guiliani would be a great President.

12] You think Central Park is "nature."

13] You tried to stay out of the bad neighborhoods until you realized every neighborhood is bad.

14] Hookers and the homeless are invisible.

15] The middle finger is a form of communication.

16] You believe that being able to swear at people in their own language makes you multi-lingual.

17] Your door has more than 3 locks.

18] You go to a hockey game for the fighting ... in the stands ... to participate.

19] You consider eye contact an act of overt aggression.

20] The subway makes sense.

21] The subway should never be called anything prissy, like the Metro.

22] You have gone the wrong way on the subway at least once.

23] There's no way of knowing how long it takes to take the bus ... anywhere.

24] You think $7.00 to cross a bridge is a fair price.

25] You know that you have to use whatever means necessary to avoid the A train after 8 P.M.

26] You can't park in midtown ... you just can't.

27]If there's no traffic on the George Washington, then you're on the wrong bridge.

28] You know in your heart that the construction on the Long Island Expressway will never be finished.

29] You secretly envy cabbies for their driving skill.

30] You live in Manhattan and know you don't need a car.

31] You call an 8' x 10' plot of patchy grass a yard.

32] You complain about having to mow it.

33] If you work in the city, seeing a celebrity on your lunch hour is no big deal.

34] You know deep down that Queens Center is STILL a bad mall.

35] Handball is a sport.

36] When it snows, the world stops turning.

37] A slice of pizza is dinner at least once a week.

38] "Mad" is an adverb.

39] Yearly rituals include watching the lighting of the tree and the Yankee parade.

Yes... because anything north of Westchester is simply labeled as "God's Country"... the "Boonies"... etc.

People from NYC have absolutely no reason to travel that far (outside of maybe the occasional ski trip).

So Westchester... yeah thats UPSTATE. Chat Icon

Come on now, I'm closer to the city than Long Island. It takes me about 25 minutes to get downtown and I don't need to cross over a major bridge.

LOL... what do you consider a "major" bridge?

How do you get to NYC then if you don't cross over a bridge?

Maybe you have one of those new Jeep Commanders. You know the one in the commercial that can travel underwater. Chat Icon

Re: You know you live in New York when....

I take the Hutch to the Hen Hud. I don't even need to go over the GW Bridge. It takes longer than 25 minutes to get into downtown, but to get to the West Side it doesn't take long at all. And if I'm going to the East side I take 87 to the Third Ave Bridge to the FDR (which I hate). That takes about 30 minutes or so.

You all need to stop hating on Westchester!!! LOL!!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
