Mother's Day Gift Question.. Concerning MILs and DH

Do you usually get your MIL's gifts? Dh always goes in with his bro and sis and therefore- that leaves me out.. I get my mom something from me- and I know she doesn't expect anything from DH-- I guess, this system can work- we just get for our own mom's.. but I always feel weird that I don't get MIL something-- although DH's family is very different with presents than mine.. and I know she doesn't expect anything from me.

What's the protocol here? Or is it just dependent upon each person's unique situation?

I guess if it works for you and the mom's are ok with it, then it is ok. But to me, that would be weird. DH and I give gifts together to both parents. Usually I pick them out.

Re: Mother's Day Gift Question.. Concerning MILs and DH

I do always get her a card-- I mean, I feel like DH should be getting a gift from me and him... but, I really don't think MIL cares and it's really more how I feel about the gifts.. Chat Icon

If we've ever gone in on gifts with siblings, spouses names are always added to the card

Here too, though I always do the picking out. I would definitely be p!ssed if my name wasn't signed to the card or whatever, even if it was a joint gift from siblings.

No. I don't get involved with any gifts or cards for her anymore. My dh did not send a card either so I am sure he will hear it from her on Sunday.
She barely does anything for my kids so I have no sympathy.

Yeah that's what we do. Gifts to my parents are from me, DH & my brother & gifts to DH's parents are from me & DH. Usually we shop for our own parents, but I think this year I got sucekred into getting flowers for his mother.

My sister and I usually take my mother out for mother's day (before she moved to FL), the guys didn't join us. Now that she's there, we send flowers from all four of us.

last year my DH bought his mom a gold pendant. this year I suggested we get both our moms flowers. they have everything they need (and MORE!), and they love flowers.
