Im Bored - what was the worst shower gift you got?

I put so much thought and effort ( and money ) into shower gifts and it always cracks me up when people are so cluless, cheap, or weird!

Lets hear 'em!

I told my MIL that I didn't want a Bridal doll. That I'm not a doll person - that I hate dust collectors. Sure enough, there was one from her sister (DH's aunt). Ugliest thing I'd ever seen. They told me to save it for my daughter. I'm thinking if I give it to her now - it should be rightfully destroyed by the time she marries.

I almost gave it to my SIL for her bridal shower - but I like her too much.

One of my relatives DEFINITELY wins this award She got me a cheap azz UGLY wedding album - really frou frou on the cover, so not my style, and really tacky looking. Now, being that I had two different albums on my registry, why wouldn't you get me one of those they weren't THAT much.

Then - to go along with that lovely wonder - she got me ONE, yes, ONE beach towel. I had some beach towels on my Fortunoff registry and she gets me ONE??? Am I not marrying someone?? Would it be possible that we might want two of them??? She drives all the way to Fortunoff for ONE towel???

I just don't get people

She went to Macy's to exchange it and they told her it was from the Lenox outlet in Fl.

Not a shower gift, but an e-party gift.

A used "wishing pot". Its like a bank, but there's no opening to get the money out. You're supposed to break it to get the money.

There was a big ol' crack in it, and the (very used/dirty) box had a "mace's closeout city" sticker for $2.99 on it.



And we had just given these people a $50 bill for an occasion 1 week earlier!!!!

Funny related story for you guys:

Years ago, my old roommate was invited to a close friends shower that she couldn't attend so she was going to send a gift. The friend is also the daughter of someone famous so everything with her is very top-notch.

So, my friend happens to see pretty much the same exact item as one of her expensive registry items at a discount store - I think it was National Wholesale Liquidators.
So, she buys that one instead - why not - they were literally the same.
Packs it up and mails it to her.

Wouldn't you know - friend calls her and tells her it arrived cracked and she was going to call her registry store and complain and have them send another one!!!
My roomie was like

I truly don't remember what happened after that - but it was so hysterical/awful!

I did that

Another cousin had her shower ( and I had like 5 showers in 1 month) and almost everything on the registry was waterford. I found the same exact waterford item that was on her registry on ebay brand new in the box for almost 1/2 the price. So I got it.

I was sooo bad that I actually bought it at fortunoffs to have it taken off the registry and then returned it the next day and gave her the fortunoff gift recipt with the ebay waterford

She was so SHOCKED and excited when she opened it and has thanked me a million times and yelled at me for spending so much

Then when my shower came she spent the "real" fortunoff price on me b/c she felt so bad that I had spent that much on her!

MY MIL (who also threw several tantrums at my wedding including wearing a PURPLE DRESS that I asked her not to wear (so did her son and her daughter) since she would MATCH my Brides maids.) knew that I LIKED the color purple so she went to the 1.00 store and picked up everything purple even though everything I registered for was black and white!

Well I was opening my wishing well at home since I didn't have enough time at the restaurant and this way my DH could help. We opened Purple Ice Cube Trays Purple utensil holder We already had an apt and had all this stuff!!!!

We open another gift of hers... NOW we are in FRONT of a LOT OF PEOPLE HERE.... And Mike and I look at each other and we have strange faces on... Mike is like Mom do you know what this is? And she is like huh what what one is it.. He's like Its a leash you put your KIDS ON... That even if we had kids we wouldn't put this on them WHY WOULD YOU BUY THIS???? She screams out Top of her lungs... BUT ITS PURPLE I was thankful she did though in a way then everyone KNEW how CRAZY she was and that I wasn't just being the MEAN daughter in law!

Hey - at least it was Genuine Leather!
