When did you tell work that you were PG?

Just curious. I am 6 weeks and DH thinks that I should tell my boss because my coworker is due in september and I will be due in late november. I feel more comfortable waiting a month or so until I am 3 months to tell. I work in a big place and once I tell my boss, the whole place will know! The only person that knows at work is my good friend. What do you girls think??? TIA! Chat Icon

It really is a personal decision regarding who you want to know so early. I told my boss right away because he asked me to make chemotherapy for a patient the day after I found out. PG women should never make this preparation so I had to explain why I couldn't. I didn't tell the rest of the employees in the pharmacy until I was 3 months.

I told my work right away b/c that next week we were doing a trade show and that normally means a lot of heavy lifting... which obviously I am not supposed to do.
But she was very cool with it.

Re: When did you tell work that you were PG?

If I had an office job I probably would have told around 6-8 weeks- after my first u/s. Since I now work with kids I want to wait until the second trimester (which is next week.) I didn't/wouldn't want to explain to a bunch of kids if God forbid I had a miscarriage. My bosses do know though.

We started telling people when I was 12 weeks (right after the first sonogram). I didn't meet with my boss until I was almost 13 weeks so that is when I started telling people at work.

I'm in my sixth week- I am going to wait until I am in my second trimester. I told two coworkers though with whom I am friendly.

I told yesterday. I'm 8 weeks. I decided I would wait until after my first u/s. My m/s is getting worse, so it was a good time to tell.

Re: When did you tell work that you were PG?

I'm a consultant, and currently I'm working at a client and my project will be finished in less than 1 month...but they have expressed interest in keeping me longer to work on their next project. I am meeting in 15 minutes to discuss the details....I think I will have to say something now, before I commit to accepting the project....sooooooo nervous!!!!!!!

ETA: It went great!!!! They would like to keep on to work on their next project...now, I just need to work out the contract details and hopefully get more $$$. She said she was very happy for me being PG and it was not a problem and didn't effect the position at all! I'm soooooooo excited Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: When did you tell work that you were PG?

I only told 2 people I was close with the first time, and I had a miscarriage so I sort of regretted it but then I didn't because I ended up having to tell my bosses because I had a missed miscarriage and was home waiting to miscarry, then ended up needing a d&c so everyone found out anyway, but they were surprisingly very compassionate (men).

This time I am not telling anyone until after the first trimester, because god forbid something goes wrong I don't want people to feel bad for me like that again, especially since someone here is pregnant, due when I was due with my first.

I told work at around 17 weeks. I didn't want to tell them early in case of a miscarriage. I would have told them a little earlier, but my boss was not in the NY office for a while.

I told around 8-9 weeks only b/c my m/s was out of control.

I had planned on telling them at 16 weeks.

Re: When did you tell work that you were PG?

Prett much right away because working on my floor I have to sometimes handle chemotherapy medications which are toxic to a fetus so I had to let my job know.

That was part of the reason DH wanted me to tell...I am nauseous all of the time and it is so hard being at work. I am trying to hold out telling as long as I can.

At 8 weeks, after I had my first sonogram to make sure everything was okay. I told my boss first and then gradually let folks around the office know.

Do what you feel most comfortable with.

I told my direct boss at 9 weeks only because I had so many appointments in the beginning. I came out to everyone else at 12 weeks.

With my first, I told them when I was 12 weeks, with this pregnancy I had to tell people at about 10 weeks. It was sooooo obvious as I am huge already. Some people were even staring at my stomach, but too afraid to say anything.Chat Icon
