What do you consider "far?"

In terms of traveling...whether it be to visit family, travel to work, shopping, etc....

Public Transportation or by Car....

Re: What do you consider "far?"

Considering my family is located over 7 hours away, I don't really think anything about it...If I need to be in the car more then 2 hours, it is far but I will do it

Work: I am only 3 miles from my house (5 mins) so anything over that is too far

Re: What do you consider "far?"

I chose 2 hours +. DH & I are moving about 1 1/2 hours (without traffic) away from my family - and I keep telling them (mainly mom) that's it's not far. It's really not. It's like sitting through Desperate Housewives & Gray's Anatomy. If she can do that - she can sit in the car to come visit me!

Re: What do you consider "far?"

My answer varies...

For work, I've been spoiled by my 17 minute commute so anything more than 20 min is "too far". I used to have over an hour and with traffic or bad weather, there were times it took me over 3.5 hours to get to/from work AND I don't even travel the LIRR.

For friends/family - no distance is too far.

For shopping - I need a supermarket within a 5 mile radius - anything more is too far...for a specialty store, if I love it, doesn't matter how far.

Re: What do you consider "far?"

Currently, I'm commuting over 1 1/2 hours one way - and it's he!! on earth!

However, to visit family/friends, distance does not bother me.

Re: What do you consider "far?"

I depends...

I'd rather drive all the way out to Montauk then try to drive over the bridges/tunnels to get to NJ, etc.. If I have to go that route or visit family in New England, then I always leave before 5 am.

It sounds horrible but I won't go visit one of my cousins in Central NJ... it's always an absolute nightmare getting to and from his house... once it took 6 hoursChat Icon I gave up several years ago.

Re: What do you consider "far?"

depends on if I am driving or DH. If it is me, then over 45 minutes seems far (I am a horrid driver - and I'll totally admit it).

If DH is driving, over 3 hours is far. I get bored and my butt starts to hurt by that point Chat Icon

Re: What do you consider "far?"

My work commute used to be an hour an a half (train and subway); now it's a half hour by train but I can tolerate really long rides.

I can also handle long subway rides and long car trips. If I want to visit anyone or go to my favorite beaches, it's a hike and I deal.

Re: What do you consider "far?"

Before I moved it was anything over an house. Now that I live in a place where you drive everywhere, I would say anything over 150 miles or 2 hours+.

Re: What do you consider "far?"

45-60 minutes for my work commute (train) is ok. any longer than that is too much.

45-60 minutes by car is always too much, unless it is going to see family/friends or shopping. Chat Icon
