Anybody watch House Hunters last night?
I thought it was weirdly ironic that it took place in Cary, NC. Made me think of some very dear friends! 
Those houses were GORGEOUS! 
This is the "episode guide"...
Looks like a great place to live!

OMG totally!! I thought it was here too, but I didn't see the red clay. That's the bet giveaway!
The house they picked is def a "normal" new house here. Price range I say bet $200-300K. What do you think?

Yeah, I think so. It all depends on the area and community. I think it could go anywhere from 200K to 350K.

Yup...you're right. See linkie for GA houses in that price range. I only searched Cobb, Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton.
This is a wider search, same counties, but I took off the "3 car garage" min. You can't beat the prices man!

I am so mad I missed it. I am going there in 2 weeks to check out the area. I researched it on the internet but we want to take a look for ourselves. The houses look awesome!

I can't speak for them...but for us, because the market's so saturated you could afford to be extra picky. Say no to wallpaper, no fence, etc. because undoubtedly there will be a house that has it.
In NY, you can't be so picky at all and renovations/additional expenses are a given.

I could hardly believe my eyes...That house would have cost them well over 2 mill here...I was in shock at how utterly stunning that home was...
I would have to think that naturally the salaries are not anywhere close to NYC or LI salaries though...So I suppose it evens out.

I think the lower salary depends on your profession. I'm pretty sure DH's salary would remain the same in the south.

Not always true - it depends on the demand for your profession. Some people go down south and wind up making more than they were making up here.

This is a common misconception. DH and I both make more in GA than we did in NY and we get bonuses. It def depends on what you do and where you go!

from my resarch in mine and FH's fields, we make much more $$ here- i wish i could make more money in a lower cost of living state!

no, total misconception for people to think that you would make less out of NYC or LI. DH and I (I no longer work) make/made comparable pay to a NY/LI salary plus add a HUGE bonus on top of the salary and well there is no turning back for us
It totally depends on your profession. I was a goverment reporter, account executive manager/sales/marketing manager and made comparable if not more than a NY salary. Dh is in the installing software bus. and makes comparable to NY. Alot of software, executives, insurance, bankers, medical professionals and so forth make a pretty good salary here.
