Sad news
I haven't been on in a few weeks. 3 weeks ago today we lost our daughter Cassandra Elizabeth at 24 weeks due to a severe heart defect. During our 20 week ultra sound they were unable to get a good look at her heart. We went back a week later and were told the same thing. They scheduled an appointment for 2 weeks later at Stony Brook for a fetal echocardiography. During that appointment it was discovered that she had hypoplastic left heart syndrome. The doctor told us that she was missing the left side of her heart and it was very severe. He wanted us to go immediately to the hospital that night to have a fetal kareotype done as well as an amnio to see if there were other problems (chromosome) as well. He also scheduled several other appointments for as soon as he could get us in with other specialists.
The next day we met with a genetic counselor who went over our backgrounds and who did not think it was a genetic problem. This was Memorial Day weekend so on Tuesday we went to meet with a Pediatric Cardiologist who examined her heart and agreed with everything the other doctors had said.
The next day I was admitted to the hospital and induced. She was born after 38 hours of labor on June 3. We were able to hold her and say good bye. We miss her so much but know she is ok now. Our nurse made us a memory box. In it is her picture, a pillow, her blanket, foot prints, and birth info. We have since added other things to it as well.
All of the doctors and nurses were amazing. They were so supportive and caring. My regular OB/GYN practice sent who ever was on call to see me each day which was nice. Our high risk doctor was wonderful. I had the same nurse each day and she even came in on her day off to be with us for the birth. We can not say enough about how supportive everyone was.
I went to my regular OB/GYN last week who said we should have no reason why we can't try again in a few months. Physically I'm healing but emotionally will take a while. I miss my little girl and can't believe she's gone. I wish all of you a healthy pregnancy.

I can only imagine how this has been for you. I am so sorry for the lose you have suffered, you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

There are absolutely no words I can say that convey the saddness I am feeling for you and your DH as I read this post. I am heartbroken on your behalf

I am terribly sorry for all you have gone through - it doesnt seem fair. I wish you a lot of luck in your recovery and much luck in the future. Your little one will always be remembered.
