Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

I am a regular poster on here but I don’t want to say who I am yet. so.... I am using CONFUSED as my screename b/c that’s the best way to describe how I feel right now.

I was not due for my period until this Friday but decided to test Monday since we have been trying and I was thrilled when I got a BFP. I went to the dr for blood test to confirm I was in fact PG. I went to the gyno today who said I am PG as well from a urine tests. Here's the thing though.. the dr faxed the blood test results to my gyno who said my HCG levels are very low around 50 when the normal for the number of weeks I am is much much higher so she said stay positive but be prepared for a chemical pregnancy. According to my calculations I conceived probobly two weeks ago today/tomorrow but she said that my numbers are that of a week or so conception.

Hers my questions
1) Did this happen to anyone else this early?

2) How do you handle it?

3) Did you get your period on time or was it late?

4) Could i only concieved a week ago if i ovulated two weeks ago how long does it take for implanation?

The one thing that is keeping me sane about this whole thing is that at least I know I can conceive. That was one of my biggest fears. I know that sounds sick but if this pregnancy is going to end I guess I have to accept it and be happy knowing that I don’t seem to have any conditions preventing me form conceiving and we try again next month.

Bur I don’t normally do this but I am asking for all you LIF ladies for prayers and good wishes that this pregnancy does come to be.

Thanks for listening..

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

Oh gosh, I am so sorry to read about this ... Chat Icon

I do not know much about chemical pregnancies.. but a few of the ladies here have had them, unfortunately Chat Icon But from what I have read.. many times, women do not even know they are PG and have had a chemical, since the pregnancies are lost SO early after conception.. often they think they are having a very heavy AF... since you usually bleed very close to the time you'd be getting AF ...

One positive thing is that you are not bleeding and the doctor confirmed your pregnancy.. so this is a good sign thus far

I don't know many of the answers to your questions so I will not attempt to answer them, I just wanted to send you lots of sticky vibes, prayers and hugs Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

ETA: I just thought after re-reading your post that perhaps the beta result (blood test) was "Low" because you are not as far along as you think... even though you think you ovulated/conceived 2 weeks ago, it could very well be only 1 week ago .. hence the reason the hcg count was low. Keep the faith, I hope those numbers go up and up!! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Oh sweetie, sorry you are going through this. I can't speak to this from personal experience, but this happened to a friend of mine. Her HCG levels were low too. She didn't have a 'chemical pregnancy', but she did end up miscarrying in her 8th week. But she was able to get pregnant again a few months later and her HCG levels were much higher.

Best of luck! We are here for you.

I am sorry I can't answer your questions about a chemical pg, but I just wanted to give you lots of hugs.

I just went through a m/c about 2 weeks ago, there is so many emotions when you think you have conceived a child and then just as quick as you found out it's gone. It just s*cks!

Please FM me if you need anything or just need to ventChat Icon Chat Icon

I'm so sorry! Chat Icon Chat Icon Keep your chin up, low numbers doesn always mean chemical.

With my chemicals my AF was late. Once only by a couple of days but once by a week and a half.

If it is a chemical your AF will probably be a little later and may be heavier than normal.

I'm so sorry...Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chin Up

I just read the following information from the American Pregnancy Organization:
"Caution must be used in making too much of hCG numbers. A normal pregnancy may have low hCG levels and deliver a perfectly healthy baby. The results on an ultrasound after 5 - 6 weeks gestation are much more accurate than using hCG numbers. "
and
"A single hCG reading is not enough information for most diagnosis. When there is a question regarding the health of the pregnancy, multiple testings of hCG done a couple days apart give a more accurate look at accessing the situation"

Last but not least
"3 weeks LMP: 5 - 50 mIU/ml
4 weeks LMP: 5 - 426 mIU/ml "
as you can see...your number falls in both the three week range and the four week range.

I would request another Beta and try to think only good thoughts until you get those second results.

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

The only thing I can add here is that, like Deb said, you may have low numbers but as long as they double every 24 to 48 hours you will have a viable pregnancy. My friend had this with her first pregnancy and everything ended up being just fine.
I would probably call the Dr. and see if you can come in for another test.

I wish you lots of luck and lots of sticky vibes!!!

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

First and foremost, you are most certainly in my prayers, and secondly I am so very saddened that your doctor is giving you wrong information.

Debg, is most certainly correct. It doesn't matter at all what your beta is, as long as it doubles within 48 to 72 hours. Please know that is the RATE. The reason why a doctor should even do a quantative bloodtest to make sure the number isn't extremely high, or not doubling. You need to go back in for a follow up beta !!!! A chemical pregnancy doesn't last that long. A chemical pregnancy is when the egg fertilizes but is struggling to implant properly. It releases hcg and then, the hcg goes down so quickly because it leaves the bloodstream almost as fast as it came in.

Did your doctor check for your progesterone level ? You need to know that !!!!!!!!!! Progesterone is what you need to sustain pregnancy. Your progesterone, can be increased by the use of suppositories and with that, the egg can be more "comfortable" and burrow deeper. Please demand a second beta, and progesterone test.

Most importantly, you are completely in NORMAL range for pregnancy. You tested your hcg before Af was even due, what did they expect your HCG TO BE ? This pregnancy has every bit of hope that any other pregnancy does! All the best to you sweetie !!!!! I am praying so deeply that this is a sticky bean and in less than 9 months, you will be holding your baby!!!!!

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

I am going to answer these questions, I reread your post.

If your Af is due, on friday (today), and you tested on Monday, you were a little more than 3 weeks pregnant on Monday. You conceived....actually only about 10 days prior! A hcg of 50 at 10 dpo is sooooooooo perfectly normal. The egg was fertilized, and then it took about 7 days to implant. So in other words, you wouldn't even have hcg in your bloodstream until let's say, last friday!!!! 50 hcg, 3 days past implant is a perfect hcg. Many people dont' even get bfp's on their hpts early. That means they didn't even have nearly as much hcg as you do as this point !!!!!! Today would mark the 4 week of pregnancy.

Did this happen to anyone else this early?

Yes most people similiar amounts of hcg at 12 dpo

2) How do you handle it?

You research, and you make sure you are on top of your on healthcare, and direct the doctor to what you want done. If the doctor doesn't cooperate, you calmly go to a new one !

3) Did you get your period on time or was it late?

You would not be getting your period, on time, if you have 50 miu of hcg. You probably won't get your period for 8 more months :) If you do start to spot, once again that doesn't necessarily mean it's "over"......please get a progesterone test. If by any chance, you miscarry early, you will start bleeding soon and it will just be like Af.

4) Could i only concieved a week ago if i ovulated two weeks ago how long does it take for implanation?

I am confused by this, you said AF is due , Friday, which is today, that means you conceived 2 weeks ago. You ovulate, and then in approximately 2 weeks from ovulation......is when AF is due. Hence the 2ww.

However, on Monday, you were only 10 days past conception based on this information.

Am I understanding this correctly ?

sorry that was confusing.. i meant i know we BD on 7/22-7/23 and that when i ovulated according to my CBM but my question was ( and i think you answered it) how long does it take to implant itself. So i guess i phrased it wrong i meant could it take a few days to a week to impant in which case i hould be counting from that day of implantation.

sorry if i sound like an idiot i am very confused by the timelibne of things so excuse me for sounding ridiculous. LOL

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

implantation can happen 6-12 days after ovulation. If you know your ovulation date count from there.

Re: Dr. thinks I am having a chemical pregnacy, prayers needed ..long

You in no way shape or form sound ridiculous or an idiot!!!!!!!! You are going through a very trying time. You sound more like a person who is concerned and quite intelligent. An intelligent person seeks information. You are being proactive, and that's a wonderful quality !!!

When measuring conception, you measure, from the day you ovulated, or the day of your last period, (LMP). Actually ob/gyn's go by lmp, but usually it's not that accurate, if a person has long cycles etc. I am going to base all my calculations by your monitor. I am assuming you reached peak at cd22/23, which means you could have ovulated during those two days or even the day after. If you aren't temping it's hard to know, but if your Cm dried up, the next day, that would indicate, ovulation having occured. Alright so, let's say, you ovulated july 22/ 23, the egg would have implanted around july 29/30th (Friday/Saturday). You tested monday....which I forgot to mention before...........Not only does it take around 7 days for implantation, it takes, about 3 days past implantation for the hcg to get into the urine. Since it has to pass through the kidneys etc. That's why a person shouldn't even bother testing, before 10 dpo. (sometimes people have speedy eggs and the implant is a day or two earlier so you can get a bfp a bit early with a very sensitive test but that's very rare). If you can date your conception (ovulation), add two weeks and that's how many weeks you are pregnant. Ok...so, that means you testing Monday was so early and your hcg is going to be low. Like I said before, your hcg of 50 is so very very very normal and within the perfect range. You are currently, 4 weeks pregnant my friend :) Congratulations, I pray you are able to enjoy this pregnancy !!!! A big 'beef' I have with certain doctors, is that they test incorrectly or give wrong information and instill fear in the patients. Pregnancy affects everything. Your body, your mind, your heart, and your soul. Once the doctor or something else upsets that balance, stress occurs. Sometimes the problem, with all this ttc knowledge and pregnancy etc, is that we are no longer ignorantly blissful. Please try to take this time, to enjoy your little "bean" .....it's there, you have life inside of you !!!! To hell with all these hcg levels, they do nothing but confuse us.
