do you answer the phone during dinner?
in my house, we never did. unless my mom or dad was waiting on a call, which was rare. at my il's house, my mil sits with the phone at her elbow and answers mid-chew 
thoughts?

usually don't. DH will answer his cell in the middle of a resturaunt if it's from his mom or sister though  Once left me sitting for like 10 minutes while he helped his sister pick out a DVD player for her BF over the phone.

No - I let it ring. Dinner is an unwinding part of my day, I don't like interruptions.
If it's important they'll call back or leave a message.

I answer the phone to tell them we're eating dinner and will call them back. If it's an emergency, obviously that trumps eating.

My DH does this too and it drives me nuts!!

It depends who it is. I always check the caller id...if it's someone I really want to speak to at the moment, my dinner can wait.

i do, but i won't stay on the line. it used to drive me insane when i lived at my parents house, my mom's family would call up everynight during dinner and insist on talking to either my mom or dad. I always thought it was so rude, even though it was just us.

Nope - we let the answering machine pick it up, unless there is something important going on in our lives (i.e. - illness in the family)

But we don't always..there is no rule about it, it just depends.

I will if it is a long distance call, since the time change issue makes it difficult to reach people.
Otherwise no, unless I heard a panicked message on the machine.

I used to but DH hates if I do. It's usually someone from my "other job" and those calls can go on forever. Now I let it go to the machine and call them back.
