just curious to see how many people it touches so closely.

One of my close friends was in Iraq for a year and a half.

My BIL is in the Army and served in Iraq for a year. Came home in Feb but it looks like he might get redeployed again after Christmas!

My Nephew was in Iraq for just under a year.
Thank god he is now home and safe.
He is in the national guard and I believe he doesn't return to duty until 2009.

Uncle in the Army
Cousin in the Marines
BF in the Army
DH's has cousins and uncles in the Army and the Marines

Dh is in Air Force Special Operations. He's been deployed 3x's since my 15 month old was born.
My Cousin is in the Marines
Numerous friends and extended family also have and are serving.

My cousin's husband just retired after 20 years
in the Marine Corps.
He was deployed to the Gulf in 2003 (I think) for about 8 months.
I believe he had been there for the first war, but he wasn't married to my cousin then.

i have 2 family members in the military
my cousin was in afganistan for a year and came home last month
i have a cousin who is a doctor for the army, i think she is stationed in hawaii

something told me this might be the case. 
in answer to my own question, beside both grandfathers being in the Navy (serving in WWII and Korea)
my brother (Marines! )served 2 tours in Iraq (Fallujah to be specific) and my closest cousin is in the Navy, a very close girl friend served 12 months at Abu Ghrahib (Army-POST scandal) also friends and family in the Army and Air Force.
I just want to thank all of these people, for doing what they do.

Tons of friends of mine and my DH's have been over there, many multiple times. DH has served once at the very beginning. I was mobilized after 9/11 for two years but not to Iraq...but it was before I met DH so it much easier since I was single, not the sacrifice many mothers and wives make with themselves or their DH's going. I also have my only two first cousins in the Army and National Guard, both preparing to deploy.

DH is a former Marine - never had to go to war and has gotten his discharge papers (whew!)
His brother is in the Coast Guard.
